Well guys, I was seriously considering subscribing about a month ago, but decided to wait 'till I started college to see how much time I would be spending on here. I'm a Biology major/Pre-Med track and I'm studying 2 or 3 hours a day. So, I obviously won't be spending very much time on here and I won't be subscribing until maybe the summer when I have more down time. I just hope it doesn't seem like I'm taking advantage of the forum as a "Non-Subscriber" or whatever. However, I do plan to subscribe eventually. I just wanted to let you guys know why I haven't subscribed yet and why I won't be on here as much.

I agree with whats been said above. As much as we peddle subscription, there are higher priorities.

Good luck with school! Ferrari's will still be there when you're done! :)

I was Biology/Pre-med. 2-3 hours would probably be the minimum on an off day. Smart to do your best to minimize distractions.

I put 2-3 hours because I didn't think people would believe me on the reality of it. It's more like 4 or 5. It kinda scares me because I hear medical school is A LOT harder.

I was on the forums a bit back in college (graduated in May of 2006)...good way to get away from the books. Premed wasn't too bad. Just stay on top of things I guess. You have a lot of free time in undergrad.

My subscription (silver) ended when I left my job I think...now I have no income. Med school pretty much takes everything away from me (time, energy, money). Had my first exam of year 2 this morning and am happy I'm off the rest of the day.

Time for some sleep and then to see some CT surgery tomorrow morning. Enjoy undergrad...don't spend all your time in books. 1st yr of med school was pretty laid back. 2nd year is all books. 3rd year will be better...you get human interaction. :)

so 3-5 hours / day in class and 2-3 studying...

Be forewarned... this is the easiest you'll have it for the next 50 years...

Have some fun. And good luck.

    Simon.

Lol. 2-3hrs is a good day for me. Insane days are 8hr + two days before exams. Most days are spent without opening my backpack.

Pre-med is easier then what everyone thinks it is. All you have to do is be smarter/less anal/more well-rounded then the competition. Enjoy your twenties when you still can.

Med school is a lot easier then they say it is.

Thanks for the assurance. It's 2-3 hours now because it's the first two weeks. Some days I spend 4 or 5 hours studying. And you're right, pre-med isn't all that hard; there's just a TON of information to learn in a short amount of time. My engineering friends' work is a lot harder than mine...

It will be lots of memorization. Over and over. "Know" it long enough to take the test. Then on to the next set of information to memorize. It is wierd, it is almost like you compartmentalize the information you are learning for a few weeks and then your brain just dumps most of it. It is funny what things you then always retain, I can still remember the five parts of the developing brain when I took embryology nearly 20 years ago.

I said I was Biology/Pre-med. I started that way (two years), ended up Mech Eng. I didn't know what I wanted to do at 17, science in general was easy for me in HS, so I thought "why not?". Got into pre-med and hated it. Hopefully you like it.

What was always said was that in Med School they would teach you what you needed to learn, if you had an undergrad major that was not specifically related to medical science you would still be accepted and could complete the program. Those with a major like Biology or Chemistry had better have a 4.0 or close to get into a top Med School. Ironically if you had a slightly lower GPA (say 3.75) in another major, you had a good chance of being accepted as well. I knew one person who went to a top med school (Wash U) and majored in Russian as an undergrad for example.

Yeah, I was told I could major in whatever I wanted, but I chose Biology because I like it. I'm more of a math persone though, so I'm thinking about switching to Chemistry. Now's the time to do it; I'm in my first year. Changing majors wouldn't even make a difference at this point.
