I'm guessing no glide slope operating on this one, yet they get it in. Asiana pilots look and learn Awesome [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pCEXaYsjSdw]Most Difficult Landing in the World (Peru) - YouTube[/ame]
I just finished writing to a friend who flies into mountain strips much like this one only it isn't paved. The approach is bent to the right instead of the left. You cannot see the strip until you make a hard turn around a cliff and you have maybe thirty seconds to decide if you are on the right glide slope. If you are , you kill power, set up your landing, and put it down on the beach of the river that flows through the canyon. I'll try to get the video that he has made and post it. Quite remarkable. He is an airline pilot and has no problems with visual approaches ...on beaches or big long runways.
Sporty, yes. Most difficult landing in the world? No. I've been doing some trips into an airport down in a canyon like that-- not quite that sporty, but close, especially depending on the direction you approach from. For that matter, that one looked much easier from the other direction, but maybe there was a lot of wind or something.
Looking at it from my perspective, I get flustered when the Van Nuys tower ask's me to make a short approach from the down wind
I guess my perspective may be a little off, but man that seemed low. Touched down well before the threshold. But maybe to get a Cheyenne in there, they have to touchdown early. Good stuff.....
I think he was making it look good for the camera. I noticed the early touchdown as well. I guess he didn't have EGPWS?
