I found this on another forum, just in case some folks here travel in that area. Officer Kevin Oginski of Arlington, Texas wrecked his Crown Vic and he was tired of getting outrun in the Vic, so he had an idea. He found a private seller of a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 B4C (RPO code for police interceptor) that only used it as a weekend toy, stock LS1 with automatic transmission. He managed to convince his department to buy it and when the conversion to full police pursuit car, the Camaro now weighed 3,800 lbs. Not exactly helpful with stock power... that was to be remedied. He managed to convince his department once more, that he could get free performance parts as long as he advertised for those companies on the cruiser. They agreed and the parts started rolling on in. - Comp cams 918 valve springs - TSP hydraulic roller, 233º/239ºduration at .050, .603/.600-inch lift, 112 LSA camshaft - Thunder Racing heat treated chromoly pushrods - F.A.S.T. 78mm intake/Jantzer 78mm throttle body - Thunder Racing 10.4mm wires - NGK TR-6 plugs - Stock GM PCM, tuned by Chris Robinson - Nitrous Express NXL and MAF system, 2-stage with NXL direct port pilled at 200hp, followed by the MAF system at 175hp - Pacesetter 1.75-inch long-tube ceramic coated headers, Random Technology 3-inch high-flow cats, Lane's 3.5-inch Y-pipe, Hooker exhaust system - FLT Stage Four 4L65E with TCI transmission cooler & TCI Breakaway 2800-stall torque converter - Camaro SS springs and shocks front and rear - LG Motorsports sway bars wtih Energy Suspension poly bushings - Wolfe Race Craft weld-in subframe connectors - LG Motorsports adjustable rear lower control arms with panhard bar and torque arm - Thunder Racing differential cover with girdle - Baer 12", two-piece Eradispeed cross-drilled and slotted rotors, Hawk pads - O.E. If they needed this car so badly, why doesn't every police department need one too? Just a waste of tax payers money and time! I don't care if they say the parts were donated, I bet some department funds went into that project.
Northlake can definitely afford that car. Nice tax base in that area. They also have multiple Camaros for normal duty (EDIT -- unless I've been unlucky enough to run across this one multiple times) Most police departments around here have a hot rod or two that are used for community relations details -- car shows, "grudge" night at the local dragstrip, etc. I would suspect any time spent on this upgrade was done after normal shift hours, much like The Colony's Corvette show car. Seen it in action at 114 and 35W. Amazing acceleration capabilities, and stealth from a distance. He tried to goad me, speeding up to get into my blind spot, and slowly rolling by, all the while I sipped my big gulp and smiled. Also, from what I understood, he finances part of the car as well.
One way or another, pretty darn cool. I had a minor violation with a Southlake cop in a Camaro. He got sick of me asking questions. That one didn't have too many mods.
That is a motor dying to blow. Most Z-28 guys go through about 3 motors before they give up & get a quality car...we'll see how much Tx taxpayers put into rebuilding that motor a few times after it grenades.
