Hi Any tricks re removing the door handles. Assume the arm rests need to come off but can't find any info in the WSM Thanks Image Unavailable, Please Login
Hi Greg - if it's not in the 575 WSM, I can post info from another similar model such as the 430. I'll be back at you when I'm at the shop.
Greg, there are 2 screws under the arm rest. Once removed lift the arm rest off. You'll find 2 rods with adjustable nuts attached leading to the the door latch. You'll have to unscrew those nuts to remove the latch. Take a photo before you touch anything so when you replace it you'll reproduce the position of the rods. Good luck.
Greg if my memory is correct removing the armrest on the 575 makes no difference. Remove the pocket, six small screws, and you should have access to everything you need. From here it's much easier to release the two rods with the yellow plastic clips. Its simple and you don't lose any adjustment. Push down or rotate up on the plastic clip, rotate it and slip the rod out. At some point you will need to unscrew the one rod from the door pull handle itself, make careful note of the original location/position so no further adjustments needs to be made when you reassemble. I think once these rods are released, the actual assembly removal of the door pull is at the top under the pull lever, one fastener. Provided some pics below. Apologize for multiple post, using an I-device for this posting. Couple further notes, to remove the drivers door mirror controls, afaik the door card/panel has to be removed. And to remove the door card/panel the WSM is lacking. I've removed everything as it instructed and still the panel remains firmly attached. Have yet to master this. In this pic you see the lever assembly removed with the rods unclipped and unscrewed. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Scroll down the page to the F430 Door Pulls video. User ncm6cabrio posted these last week, may be helpful to you. https://stickynomore.com/help.html
It was nice of Mike to create those videos prior to sending the parts in to us to refinish. Thanks again, Mike.
Dave only thing I see similar to 575 is the single fastener under the actual lever. Posting two more pics. Here is the door pull assembly view with door pocket removed, armrest still in place, yellow clip is one point where rod is unclipped. Bill Image Unavailable, Please Login
Second removal point of rod with plastic clip is at this point. Removal of spring tension makes it easier. Make note of locations for spring and positioning of rods for reassembly. Also once this rod is unclipped it will be unscrewed from the door pull freeing the door pull for removal with the one fastener from above. The depth position of the rod into the latch should be noted for exact positioning upon reassembly. *Noticed the picture in post 7 above is actually upside down. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks, Bill. Greg is asking for a 575 for sure as we are discussing his refinishing. As always - I appreciate your help.
Thanks for the input guys. I removed the door pockets last night and will attack it again when I get home tonight. I'll post some pics later too
Bill, thank you for the instructions. The handles came out very easily So, in summary 1. Remove the 3 screws at the top as well as the three screws at the bottom of the door pocket 2. The pocket will pop out with some gentle force 3. look underneath the handle and you will see a yellow plastic clip holding a rod. Unclip and the rod can be removed from the handle 4. follow the second rod to the back of the door and you will see a black clip. I didn't need to remove the spring, the clip and rod unfastened easily 5. detach the electrical connector to the handle 6. lift the handle and undo the single screw at the base of the handle 7. slide the handle and 2nd rod which is still attached through the hole in the handle well 8. mark the position of the thread of the 2nd rod where it meets the handle (so it can be put back in the same spot) 9. detach from handle 10. Wash hands! Cheers Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Greg, glad to help. Well done on the summary. You will be very happy when your parts come back. The only regret I had was at the time not getting the mirror controls out and off to Dave at the same time. Even though they weren't sticky yet the restored pieces come back so nice they don't match well. Tolerable but not preferred. My car is due for a belt change next year and I plan to complete the job at that point with a little assistance. Bill FL
Hi Greg - Nice work! This is not an up-sell, but to Bill's point - it's best to send in the inner door handle assemblies, their buckets and mirror control all at the same time so that once you put this all back together, it's done for life. It's never the best idea to install freshly refinished parts into trims that will fail at some point.
Greg, Great job and photos! When you get the parts back from Sticky Rx (assuming you're using them) you will be amazed. Like a brand new interior.
