I'm currently waiting to hear back from keys4classics -- they quoted me $35 for two full sets of keys (ignition and door) cut to code (or copied if you don't know the code) and guaranteed to work. This seems like a better deal than $20 for a single blank.

Fiat 124 or Spider 2000 door keys often fit. Since the bodies and much of the hardware is "generic" Pininfarina, that would be the first place to start. A good local locksmith could help a great deal.

I had a set of spare keys made, both ignition and door, at a local key shop. Total cost $5. I could check for those interested to see if they have additional blanks. By the way mine is a '87 328 GTS.

Correction....they DO fit. ;) The door key for a Ferrari is exactly what is used on a Fiat.

The ignition key blank is the same for Fiat, Renault, Peugeot and Ferrari (...at least for a 308).

I just got 2 sets of official Ferrari logo ignition and door key blanks for my 328 from the local Ferrari dealer. They were sort of expensive (about $60 for ignition and $25 for door) but I wanted keys with horses on them rather than the hardware store variety. Vanity is expensive.

The original 328 folding ignition key is no longer available, but the F50 key blank is the same shape and has a black handle with a chrome horse. The door key from the dealer is exactly like the original. Black plastic handle with molded-in horse.

The Ferrari dealer also provided my key codes so I could get them cut to code rather than traced from the old keys.

Check w/Daniel @ Ricambi, an FChat sponsor. The last time I bought a few spare door key blanks(black plastic handle w/horse) he had them and was cheaper than a dealer.

These days only Ferrari dealers have genuine Ferrari key blanks. Or so I was told during my great key blank search of 2006.

Hardly the case...I bought two(2) of the F50 key (silver horse on handle, and several (at least 4-5) of the plastic handled key w/embossed horse for my doors and glove box from Daniel at Ricambi this past year. My door key code is #2 and he had plenty....oh, and he was cheaper than the dealer on both items at the time.

As of late Daniel no longer lists them as available, and they are no longer show on his web site. Maybe he has a secret stash but as I procrastinated making the purchase they all gradually disappeared.

I went round and round for 6 weeks right before Christmas trying to find genuine Ferrari keys (F50 ignition and code #4 door) before getting them from the dealer.

I have a thing about getting plenty of spares of items that will eventually no longer be available...
As you said, Daniel must have sold out of all he had.

I thought I was being cautious by having 3 sets of keys for my car!

Are those 328 only keys pictured above? If not, what did the original 308 keys look like? (I went with the dealer F40 key blank.)

Sadly, not anymore. I have two blanks remaining, and need way more than $60/ea for them.

Just curious, why do you need way more than $60 for the F50 ignition key (assuming that is the one you mean)? My dealer apparently would sell me hands full of them for $60/each. Or buckets of code #2 or code #4 door keys for $25/each.

I got my 308/328/F40/etc keys in December from Ferrari of Central Florida. They were $79.78 for the ignition key (the plastic one with the silver horse) and $9.26 for the door key. Hey Jeff328, who is your dealer? I'd like a backup and I think I may just buy my next one for $60. Shipping can't be that much for a key.

Dunno what the 308 keys looked like but the keys pictured fit the doors, glovebox, and the side louvres on the 328 series.

I was doing a search for key blanks for my 1989 328 and came upon this online store. Thought it might be helpful.

Here's the link for I believe my door key: http://www.mysecuritypro.com/index.asp?PageAction=PRODSEARCH&txtSearch=F91C&btnSearch=GO&Page=1

And here is for the ignition:
    http://www.mysecuritypro.com/index.asp?PageAction=PRODSEARCH&txtSearch=H61VR&Page=1

And here is some info to get the proper numbers/codes for the blanks:
    http://kaba-ilco.com/key_systems/pdf/2006_Auto_Truck_Key_Blank_Reference_[2852-E-1105].pdf

    Page 24 on that one.

"ILCO/EZ" codes seem to refer to the blanks, can anyone confirm that H61VR for ignition and F91C8 is for the door?

And also I wanted to know how a key code can be obtained on a car's locks to have them cut, not copied if desired. I have to assume my locks are original.

What did the dealer need to give you the key codes? I bought a few on e-bay a while back, and the local expert key shop did an ok job on the ign key, but the door key is another story. The codes would be good for my records too.

I got my key codes through the dealer's parts department. They needed the VIN and proof of ownership and identity to furnish the codes. I sent them a copy of my vehicle registration and a copy of my driver's license and that did the trick.

Then they contacted Ferrari in Italy (apparently NJ doesn't have this info?) and after about 2 weeks they sent me the codes via e-mail.

My original door keys have the code stamped on them. Although I didn't know it at the time, until I got the codes from the dealer and discovered the same number on my keys.

If you need to identify the proper blank keys for your 308/328, a good resource is http://www.keys4classics.com/html/Fer208etc.html where there are pictures of the blank that goes with each code family.
