I need help. Driver door made a noise at both of the detent stops. Bought a new "door slide" part. Very simple piece, hard to install. Noise is still there. A loud "crack" at each stop both of the detent stops. Same exact noise as the part I replaced. Without the slide installed, the door is very smooth from open to close. So, I'm out of ideas. Can I be the only guy with this problem. Thanks
The 550 doors are really heavy. When my driver's door started doing that, my shop replaced the hinge assembly and reinforced the frame where it attaches. That was four years ago and it's been quiet ever since. Soon it will be time to do the same for the passenger's door as it's recently started to make those same noises.
Thanks for the advice. When the "slide" isn't connected the swings great. Do you think that would happen if the hinges were at fault.
When my driver's door was making those noises, taking out the pin would quiet it down and the door swung freely without detents. It was obvious the hinge was deformed and not working correctly when the pin fractured as did the replacement pin shortly after it was placed. The door frame was cracked where the hinge attached. As I said, it's a heavy door and all those openings and closings over 62,000 miles took its toll.
Last question I hope. Do the main hinges need to be fixed ? Or is the where the pin installs. I think that's a dumb question. Not sure how to correct the main hinges. Many thanks
In my case, the hinge deformed and had to be replaced. In doing so, the door frame was noted to be cracked where the hinge attached. The crack was repaired and the door frame was reinforced. Ferrari should have bolstered the door frame in that area to begin with. As I said before, my passenger door is starting to do the same thing. I'll have my shop look at it when I bring my car in for servicing next month. My car has about 70,000 miles on it now.
I'll my service fellow soon and I'll let you know what we mind. My car only has 35 k on it. You have had a lot of fun with 70 k. Thanks again.
It use to be slack in the hole on the "door stopper". Drill a bigger hole and put in a bigger pin. No gap = no sound.
You'd drill a bigger hole on the 2 parts that are attached to the car, not door. Also drill the slide arm same size. What I don't understand is the noise started all of a sudden. Also, the pin was bent. Now with all new parts, same noise. No pin installed, no noise. Thanks
Sorry to say everybody was correct. The door frame was cracked and a piece of metal will have to welded etc. Not a giant issue, Ferrari should have done a better job on this area. Thanks
