    Hello All,

It appears the springs holding the door pocket in place on my 328 has given out. I was able to locate a place that sells replacement springs but do not have a clue how to disassemble and replace the springs. Anyone know of a video or link on instructions? Or can explain how to remove the pocket to get access to the springs?

    Thanks,

    Chance

    Chance,
I'm in the process of putting my car back together, so could get some photos for you. Unfortunately, you have to remove the inner door to get to the springs. The pocket is bolted through the inner door. I've taken some photos to show you what the pocket looks like on the inside and what the springs should look like when you are done. I found that the "body" of the pocket at the springs had come apart and the area of the screws that hold the spring assembly on had broken down, but got some JB Weld and filled the space. After it set, I predrilled the holes and put it back together. So far, so good. It's a bit interesting to get the springs on correctly. Hope these help! Mike

Yikes. Thanks for posting. I was interested because I have the same issue, but I think I'll wait till the next pandemic to tackle that repair!

I have "repaired" these springs by taking two, needle nose pliers and unwinding a coil of the spring at the break. (I have only had them break at the end of the coil). Richard C

Did you get the info you need to repair these? I’m doing mine now and have detailed photos I can upload.

I'd love to see how it's done. Can the pocket assembly be removed without removing the whole inner door skin? Just removing a few of the bottom screws to get a wrench in to remove the few screws that attach it to the door skin?

    Kent,

I'm back home and found the pictures you need. Unfortunately, I don't see how you can replace these springs without taking the door panel off. It's a one-beer job. Not more than 30min at least in my case ('87 328 with the hidden door handles). Door panel comes off then the armrest attachment comes off. Flip it over and that's what you see here.

I've uploaded the pics I took to document my work (ok, remind me how to reassemble). Let me know if you need any other photos as I have everything disassembled now.

    Thank you Craig,
This is very helpful. I see how you un-wound one end of the coil-spring and looped it through the hole. I'll look for inner door skin removal next.

    Kent,

I didn't do that, it was like that when I pulled it apart. I noticed it wound also and couldn't figure out why it was like that but it must have been previously repaired.

I am going to go check now.

It works for me. It looks like it will do the trick.
