I'm considering buying my first Ferrari (360CS) and would like to know what's taboo when it comes to aftermarket mods.. thx in advance..
Not sure what you could do to it, its pretty much perfect. Perhaps change the exhaust to a Tubi NGT. All the usual stuff, lowering, wheels, tires, fire extinguisher, carbon fiber, brakes -- has already been done! Perhaps invest in some driving lessons?
powder-coated wheels, Capristo lvl 3, test pipes, sound system... then.. your CS would be 'perfect'! what color specs?? does it have a stripe? (it better or else...)
Remove Stereo, add a harnesses, hire a driving coach! Actually, If you are driving it hard enough you can upgrade front springs rates with Ferrari Ti springs, adjust camber, and adjust the suspension down. You have to be pushing it pretty hard though. And you wouldn't want to drive it on the street anymore.
I think it is perfect as is, except for the seat belts if you track the car. The exhaust note of the CS is the first modern Ferrari factory exhaust that sounds just right for the car. I wouldn't change it. Re the seat belts, the only thing I would do it it didn't mean cutting into to the car, would be to install the non-US factory supplied Harness belts. It really ticks me off that we cannot order harness belts in the US. What moron in the DOT decided that harness belts are less safe than the regular three point belt supplied with the car in the US?
Regarding seat belts, thats sort of a can of worms. US Stradales don't have mount points for the belts, so that requires some cutting and welding to reinforce the flimsy firewall. You definately need to deal with someone who knows what they are doing. You also need to add a roll bar, because the design of the side belt is better in the case of a rollover your body can move to the inside. With 4 point belts you are not moving anywhere. That requires the roll bar, and become a bit more complicated ...
Do's: Tubi NGT Straight Pipes 4 point Ferrari Belts Stripe (vinyl - so it can be removed) Powder-coated wheels 3M film for the front (Ghee, this car sounds familiar.........LOL) Dont's: Fuzzy dice from rear view mirror Bumper sticker that says "my other car is a Yugo" Ugly girl in the car Pink calipers Pinstripes Gold emblems/lettering Jammin' out to Barney songs Entering the car in a tractor pull contest
Yea, it is a can of worms. I ended up paying a race fabricator to come up with something that would 1) Be safer than stock and 2) Not destroy the car. He did a really clean job that ties the bar into structural pickup points on the car. However, the topic of roll cages in CS's seem to rile up the masses quite a bit. Makes for fun reading! The ONLY aftermarket mods that should go on that car is Novitec Rosso! Specifically their Bi-compressor twin supercharger!
Do's and Dont's are relative to your personal liking. I think that when you reach a certain age, and that age can be different for each person, you begin to do things that for the way you see them, rather than the way the world sees them. If you like the look, feel, or sound of the Novitec, dive right in. I prefer my Ferrari at bit more of the factory look and feel. But you should do what ever makes you happy.
I certainly agree with that. Just that the original poster was asking for advice and its his first Ferrari. Putting a supercharger on a Stradale doesnt sound logical. He could wreck it or blow up the engine. For sure it would void the warranty and will devalue it. Just doesn't sound like good advice.
Do you have any experience with Novitec tuning? Blow up the engine? Has there been a case where a CS with a supercharger blew up an engine?
