Reported by Autosport. What the actual ****. With a capital F. Might as well give extra points for finishing a wet race...
COMPLETE BS! I am infuriated by this! Formula 1 season finale to be worth double points from 2014 - F1 news - AUTOSPORT.com This is an overreaction to red bull dominance and ruins the point system in racing! We have enough changing in 2014 to spice things up without this artificial ploy. If they want to give an extra point for fastest lap or pole (similar to GP2), that's fine - but this change is a FARCE! What's next - putting ice sheets on the track during the last 3 laps?
What a joke. I could understand if there was SOMETHING special about the race other than being the last one on the calendar. As stated above, I'd much rather see a point for pole and fastest lap. Mark
+1 (or should I say +25x2) complete nonsense and yes I have been hoping for a pole point forever.... MS
The problem is they won't do that because that would put Vettel even FURTHER in the lead, which is what they have identified that makes people stop watching races! They are trying to make people watch the final races and fill up seats at the last race, even when it's boring. Their motivation isn't for better racing or better fan experience - it's purely for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It's a ridiculous idea that should be dropped ASAP! As for the points for pole and points for fastest lap, that's all well and good but in recent years, who has dominated the pole positions and fastest laps? - I hardly think he needs any extra help to increase his advantage over the rest!
stupid idea. However, I never really understood a point for pole. When you put out the fastest lap in qualifying, the reward is the best starting position. why a double reward by also giving a point?
It's still a bit to do with compromising your setup. Do you want to start first and get an extra point, or rather 2nd row in a car that'll use it's tires better on the long run? That said it made more sense to have that rule when they had the qualifying fuel level start rule...
Stupid. But no more stupid than mandatory pit stops and contrived tire rules, which many here support.
FIA announces regulation changes - Pitpass.com Full update on changes not just for the last race points.
Well, as far as I can see it wasn't until 1991 that points scored in ALL the races counted towards the championship - so F1 has a long history of rather 'special' points rules. That being said, I will agree that this does not seem like a very good solution, to a problem I don't think exist.
I support fueling if they want it and multiple stops for tires etc if a team wants to. Let them race NOT manage.
So did points being awarded for leading at quarter race distance, half race distance and three quarters race distance! (which will probably be the FIA's next bright idea!). Can you imagine how big a margin Vettel would have won by if all of these were applied last season?
