Is Pininfarina on probation these days? For the second year in a row they are in the red. 200 jobs cut this year to. Times are tough for the independent style houses in Italy. Bertone is in worse shape with no good prospects. As with everything, politics play a role. You can do the best independent styling job on a new vehicle but it won't win because the politics dictate that the 'in house' automobile manufacturers design must be chosen. Even when the outside guys present a style winner.
We know about the FXX program and how owners are playing a test driver role in the development of future products at Ferrari. Is Jim really the double secret test driver for Pininfarina as they develop a new product around the P4/5 theme? Pininfarina is hurting for work these days. A new car built by them and featuring a well known horse emblem would go a long way towards solving their financial woes...

    Interesting article:

In a Funk, Italy Sings an Aria of Disappointment

Search New York Times and read the article. The entire country is in a funk. They even refer to Luca , almost as a saviour.

The style part of Pininfarina is doing very well as is special projects. The production side has been a bit tough but there are good plans to straighten that situation out.

I am hopeful that next year will be better.

Jim: building the 4 door Aston Martin would be an interesting fit for them. Paint work is always the catch though.

Good One! That car looks like it's going 200 MPH even when it's standing still...

I don't know many details about Pininfarina's current state, but if they were in really serious trouble facing the close down, I'd guess they'd be bought by Ferrari... Scaglietti anyone? ;)
