I'd like to download a song.

Do all the reputable sites have limited use protection? It seems every sites says something to the effect of "can only store on two computers...blah, blah, blah"

I normally just rip a CD i purchased and move the file anywhere I want without any copy write software causing problems.

I don't want to use one of those sites laden with viruses and spyware, etc....

    I wanted the song:

"Let's get it started" Black Eyed Peas

there is no legal way to acquire the song except through some online music store with some usage limitations.

if you're asking how you can break the law, my guess is rob would rather you took that discusssion off of ferrarichat.com .

There are a couple of MP3 sites originating in Russia that sell non-DRM MP3's. They are "supposedly" legit and legal. Don't remember what they are, but you should be able to Google that.

Any particular reason you don't just buy it? It's only $10 at Amazon......

I would be curious to hear about legal implications of using a sharpie to bypass the copy restriction on CD's.

I own all my cds and don't want to purchase it because it's the only song I want on the disk. I thought you could buy just one song but they put limits that I don't like from Itunes, for example.

Nothing illegal about backing up music you bought. If you buy a bunch of stuff off of iTunes and your HD takes a dive, you could lose everything. There are numerous ways to do this, one of them is converting the MP3 into a .wav file. You can do this with a program like Sound Forge. Converting it will strip the DRM away.

Actually, once it's burned to a cd and extracted back to a HD, the DRM is gone. So much for that. The only people this digital rights management stuff keeps honest are grandmas and 11 year old girls - precisely the people who wouldn't bother stealing it in the first place.
