Gentlemen, I'm looking to cash in some Hilton Honor points to stay in Chicago next week. We want to visit the Art Institute, maybe the Museum of Science and Industry, go to Gino's or Gino's East, maybe Rush street. Its been a while since I stayed downtown. I'm looking at staying at the Drake or Palmer House or Downtown Hilton. It looks like the Drake is pretty close to the above. Appreciate any comments or ideas on proximity. Regards, Drew Altemara
1) Drake is at the northern end of Michigan avenue. Art Institute is further south, and the Chicago Hilton is further south still. None of these are anywhere near walking distance to the Museum of Science and Industry, which is in Hyde Park at 57th Street. 2) Drake is the best location of the above for access to shopping and Gino's as well as Rush Street. 3) Of those three I would personally choose the Drake. YMMV.
Out of those three I would agree, the Drake would the best bet. It's a little old fashioned for my tastes (reminded me of the Waldorf-Astoria), but classy none the less.
There was a recent thread 2-3 months ago asking about hotels and I will again rec the Drake... I am a Hilton Diamond member and have burned plenty a points there... The exec lounge is great for cocktails and the breakfast is superb.. It is a much older hotel with ornate fixtures... Good overall service..... We recently stayed one night using points and I was able to get a suite with two bathrooms/2 beds and a pull out sofa.. (I have 4 kids and we were spending the day at the lake...).. Be prepared for short cab rides to the museums and just walk to Rush st...... Tony..........
