Hi, I just saw this. Thanks for thinking of the book. I think that I'm gonna need all the help I can get to try and recover the cost. :)

The chapters are going to the designer as I type for galley proofs. The plan is to have the book out for Cavallino.

But please note. I'm just the publisher. Nathan is the author.

    Again, thanks. I'm pedaling. I'm pedaling. :)

Dale, what price point are you thinking you need to recover and make a profit?

If this is a good quality hardback, I would think anything from $50 to $150 would sell. If a soft bound, under $75. I have no problem sending in a deposit with delivery at Cavallino. I think most of the Boxerites would do the same.

    Am I close?

Thanks all. Because I have never done this before, I have made some rookie mistakes. But hopefully, I'm learning. Turns out that getting the book printed is the easy part. The sales/distribution channel will be the tough part. Amazon and others insist that you sell to them below cost, which doesn't make any sense.

But I'm working on it. I'm working on it. Fortunately, I didn't quit my day job, which assumes that I know what that is. :)

Yes distribution costs are a major expense, if the book is done and that is what is holding this up how about offering it as a E- Book?

Granted I would rather have a hard copy book but its better than not having it at all unless you are making progress with the ditribution network of course we can wait.

What retail price point are you considering?

At this point, it is a moot subject. I'm gonna spend whatever it takes to print 5,000 copies. From there, if I get my money back, I'll be a happy camper.

The E-Book is a nice idea, but this is basically a coffee table picture book.

So, hell or high water, this ship is gonna sail.

    Dale

PS Pls, Pls, don't mention any of this to my wife. :)

The reason I asked about the retail price is that possibly we can get enough people up front to give you a deposit to help you out. But in order to do that, we will need to know the final price.

Again, I'm very impressed with the Boxer community. You guys (and I'm sure that there must be a gal or two somewhere in all this) are impressive.

Because, at the end of the day, this will not be a profit making venture, I'll let you know what the per-book nut happens to be.

    Thx, Dale

Here is an idea for the book's preface. The superintendant of Knottsberry Farm in southern Cal is a guy named Bob Boxer. Really. He could be the book's mascot.

After nearly 2 wasted years with a would-be publisher who sat on the book and did very little with it I have bought back my Boxer book project. Yes, I'm very disappointed with how things have turned out, but enough of that.
The good news is that I am going to publish the book myself, and I aim to have it published by the middle of 2007.
It covers all the BBs, and has a major section on the BB/LMs. There are more than 200 photos, many of them never published before, including some great race photos and a spectacular crash sequence.
It will also include a register of all known BB chassis numbers, so if you own a BB and would like to see your car in the book just email me - [email protected].
Also, if anyone has any BB/LM video footage please let me know. More news to follow as the project progresses.
    Nathan

Many of us emailed chassis numbers to you or Dr. Who before. Do you still have those, or do you need it resent?

(Of course, you could probably find 90% of them in the thread about Boxer owners right here).
