This was emailed to me -- looks interesting, but kinda pricey. http://www.arielatomexperience.com/index.php?option=com_track_info&Itemid=64
Very tempting, but I agree it is too high. Been on their website many times, and do want to drive one.
It is in September, I think, and I also think they dropped the price - I thought it was $2000. I also think they apply the price to a purchase, so if you were really serious about buying a car, that helps. I had emailed them to ask about how many cars are coming and how much seat time I get, but no word on that so far. $1850 for 1 hour at speed is a lot different than $1850 for 3-4 hours.
Thanks $1850 is way high unless you get at least 4-5 hours of professionally instructed hard driving time...Then it makes a little more sense.
Whatever the car costs, doesn't really matter much. There are wear and maintenance items, let alone depreciation, related to the car itself. There are track rental and insurance fees in that cost. And if they use qualified instructors, they're a minimum of $500.00 per day. My guess is that they've got a five or six hundred dollar margin in their pricing.
Having run Apex now for a few years, folks realy don't get it on the operating costs of cars and track operations. Storage, insurance, maintenance, repairs all add up in a hurry, and remember that these folks are toting these cars halfway across the country, not inexpensive with $3/gallon diesel and $300K or so rig to carry things. That said, $1850 needs to include quite a bit of track time to be competive. I can go to Radical West school for less than that, I think, and definitely go to any of the big name racing schools for les than that per day. But this opportunity is unique, so we shall see.
Not sure but I know people are comparing these to T rexs which are around $50k I think. $70k+ for a used one http://www.arielatom.com/index.php?option=com_cfgr_used_cars&Itemid=53
