Question for all Ferrari owners? I had my Ferrari out a few days ago and just driving it around and cruising like I always do. I do take the car down the highway and open it up a little bit and put it through the motions. Another Ferrari owner saw me out and followed me to where we caught up to one another on a neighbor hood street. We talked for a few minutes about our cars, then he DROPPED the clutch in his car and SMOKED 1st gear all the way to red line and had the car SIDEWAYS threw 1st, then SMASHED 2nd gear, the car fished tailed back the other way SMOKING it’s tires all the way. Then he hit 3rd gear and straighten the car out down the road. I just could not believe he was driving his car like he stole it from a parking lot. So my questions to all Ferrari owners? DO YOU DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT, OR DO YOU JUST DRIVE IT? I just drive mine.

There are a few issues - First of all, if you drive a 3x8 it just isn't that fast - it's a great car (well balanced) for touring around but anybody who tries to impress by smoking the tires is gonna be real shocked when some ricer kicks their azz or worse yet a socker mom in a suv. Secondly, I think most Ferrari owners are a bit more mature than to dump their clutch like a teenager. That's not to say they don't exploit the potential of the car - just that they do it in a more adult manner. Lastly, abusing your car does cost money - which may or may not be a concern.
I enjoy exploring the potential fo my car but at the same time I try not to be an ass about it.

I love to drive sideways. However now the cost of repairs overwhelms my desire to drive sideways. Everytime I see that kind of driving I consider how long the clutch will hold, and the current price of tires. I still open it up now and then. I just don't strain the car like I use to when I was a kid.

Perhaps the only way my 328 would go sideways and spin the tyres up to third is in the rain..

On a dry road.. not enuff power so i don't bother trying.

I occassionally drive it like I stole it. For the most part I drive with the traffic with a few bursts of fun. When noone is around it is more fun to drive the car very hard. I would be way too embarrassed if I had a misshap with other drivers around. I know I am not skilled enough to do the kind of driving you mentioned. If you have the skill I say "Drive it like you stole it">

It's rare enough that my car is 100% that I drive it hard when the opportunity arises. But I don't smoke the tires (I do squeal them on occasion off the line though!) and my car won't easily go sideways. I'm lucky my clutch is way stronger than the engine.

Life is short and what's the point of driving a sports car like a boulevard cruiser? (That's why I don't drive in the rain: there's no point!)

I drive cars hard. Very hard. But at the same time I have a high degree of mechanical sympathy. I can make a car last like nobody I know, because while I use all its potential I do not abuse it, and I am constantly on the lookout for any problems. Yes, full throttle to redline in every gear, but no shock loads through the driveline: no clutch dumps or snap shifts. Aside from being bad for the car, it's also not the fastest way. Ninety-nine percent of the time I am extremely easy on the clutch at starts, which gives me the confidence to use it hard now and then. To date I have never had to replace a clutch, and in fact clutches get BETTER in the cars I drive.

    Now, I don't drive a Ferrari, I drive this:

But the principle is the same. Use the car's potential but don't abuse it.

Eight years and counting in Dubai; it's a great place to live especially for a car enthusiast.

You'll never go racing cheaper, as in this:

    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v191/DubaiVol/kartnewsmall.jpg

Trust me 27 hp at 19,000 rpm is more than enough in a 310 lb kart with driver.

And if you like fast street cars it's also a great place:

This little gem is reputedly ex Rene Arnoux:

And that's just fiddling through the pics I have posted before. Loads more where those came from.

Just about the rarest car on the road is this:
