With the hard facts of the case, that's pretty hard to believe the DA felt the need to plea bargain in exchange for that testimony.........

    Amazingly light sentences......

I can't condone what they did, but I think the defense had an argument about the guy that turned in front of them. A tragedy with plenty of blame to go around.

I thought similar things--not necessarily that these men had a real defense, but that even at 80 mph (or rather, accelerating from probably 45-80 mph), 157 yards is still quite a long way to travel time-wise.

No doubt this poor man saw the two cars coming, assumed they would be driving at normal speeds, began to perform what would have been a normal maneuver under normal speed circumstances, and then had the worst happen to him.

A real shame. And yes, what BigTex said--amazingly light sentences.

I actually had a friend of a friend whose father was charged with manslaughter on account of reckless driving/street racing about a year and a half ago. Some people just never learn, and there is no excuse for it.

True. Unfortunately my generation was responsible for its resurgence at large, what with the rise of the Fast and Furious franchise. I am glad that the energy is beginning to subside...

There will always be those who want to race, though.

Van Brakel - or is it Bluemax - is scum, and his attorney's attempt to pin this on the elderly driver of the Camaro was deplorable and pathetic. I don't want to pin this on MBWorld, but the culture of street racing on that site, and especially in the Phoenix area, is almost as miserable as Van Brakel's existence.

I hope he serves every minute of that sentence - and I hope he finds prison to be hell. Good riddance.
