Mercedes is allowing people exclusive access to the SLR. The event is taking place on May 14 at the California Speedway in Fontana, CA. It's a day long event where you will drive the SLR as well as listen to a celebrity speaker, lunch, and driving sessions (including hot laps with a pro driver). You will also have the opportunity to drive the CL55, SL55, E55, and SLK55. The total cost is $2,395 (which I think is a bit steep). More information can be found here:

If they flew me out there, put me up and waived that silly fee, I'd do it. :)

I have ridden/driven all of those cars. The only two that I have not driven is the SLR, and the SL55. Those were way out of my league.

However, I have driven my uncles CL55, my other uncles E55, and a good friends SLK55. I have also driven a CLS55, and that was a trip. Nice ride, good handling.

And I did this all for free too.

Porsche was doing this for free for potential C-GT buyers. I think few people from here participated.

It's funny that They are charging 2k for test drives. When the Maybach was launched, I had been invited to the same type of affair. Meet at John wayne airport, fly by helo to Ca Speedway for day of driving and fun. Cost....$0. What stinks is, I couldn't make it because of work schedule. Two grand seems too much. In fact any amount seems too much for a company to show a product to potential buyers.

About 6 months ago I read somewhere that they were working on a hot version of the SLR. Has anybody heard anything about that recently?
