    Amazing!

    ------------------------------------------------------------

Our 599 has seen 3500 miles in a little over a month. It might not be a supercar...but I couldn't be happier.

We'd love to keep it in the family. The first Ferrari is something very special. I couldn't be more happy or grateful.

    I'm confident that she'll reach 100 000km (60K miles) in the next 3/4 years.

ok a garden variety '85 308 QV is no 'Super Ferrari" but it's very likely as close as I'll ever get, and I do drive the nuts off her.

When my parents made their annual trip from NJ to Milwaukee to visit 2 weeks ago went on a 3 hour non-stop cruise through the Kettle Moraine with my pop. He's an old school sports car guy: restored Jags (3.8s, S1.5 E-type, S2 XJ6 etc) in his garage (pre-internet), stopped by the 'Ring for the '67 Gran Prix during a 1 month Euro jaunt with Mom http://www.tcnj.edu/~edelbach/ring67/ring-67.htm , auto-x'd an MGA deluxe, taught me everything I know about cars while refurbing my first car a Fiat X1/9 etcetc. Was great to spend a few hours next to him in a bona-fide, if run-of-the mill Ferrari.

Last weekend drove up to Elkart Lake and wrung her out on the track:

It's far from a garage queen so a rock chip or water spot doesn't bother me at all. Loves to shift at 7000rpms and gives me the biggest smile I've ever had behind the wheel (well there was that one time on a deserted highway in PA but we won't count that...)
    cheers

Fun read and great blog. Is that Mantide based on something else or a one off? Very unique.

    One-off so far.

But, if you really want one, you can have one built just for you, in your own livery. Let me know if you have an interest and I will direct you accordingly.

Commenting only Joe. Interesting and unique looks for sure.

What I'd really like is that horsey in your garage ending in GTO ;) In time perhaps.

Yes, initially when I saw it, I wasn't sure I liked it, but it has grown on me and I think with a more appealing livery it would be fabulous.

I'm not sure you would ever want a GTO. Did you know that GTO stands for "Get Tools Out" ?

LOL!! That was good. I have buddies up here who own some nice classic Ferraris..........and everytime I get that itch and inquire about say a 275GTS or a 330GTC............they always talk me out of it. But heck I threw 30k at that F40 before it even set foot on pavement. I'm "somewhat" used to shop bills from these things. But thanks for the heads-up. Still won't deter me from spending hours perusing through the 288GTO thread.......drooling all over my computer. :)

I think the old classics from the sixties such as the 275 series and the 330 series hearken from an era when the original manufacturing quality and materials used mean that you'll be restoring them to some extent all the time.

    Reminds me of a Miura!

However, from the eighties 288 GTO onwards, the manufacturing quality and composite materials used mean you have a much more long-lasting car. As you have seen from your F40, once you set them up and catch up on all the deferred maintenance, with regular use you're good to go and they stay healthy with just the most basic attention.
