I Agree 100% Several years ago some did a wave in across my lane of traffic. Car went out from a stop sign across the lane I was in. nearly T-boned him. As it was It caused 5K worth of damage. Never let any one "wave" you in or by. Follow the rules of the road
+ 1 , if you were comfortable with your speed, I would have waved off the offer to pass as well. That's one reason that I drive almost exclusively on side roads, I can cruise hassle free and no windshield pits either.
+2 here as well. What always bothers me about this pack bikers/mountain road thing is that you never know how much experience these guys really have, and if you try to spar with them very much you might just lead them into at least an "incident". Even pushing them from behind a little could possibly get them over their skill set and you don't want that. Usually they will get tired of the vibration after a while and pull over to "enjoy the view". All in all, I would rather be behind them than one of those truck/travel trailer combos or a motor home - you can at least see the road ahead if you do want to make a pass.
#1 I agree with the guys who said to ignore the waver and enjoy your cruise. #2 My thanks to regisgtb4 for his reply, that's the funniest thing I've read all day. Outstanding effort!
what you should have done is pulled over at the nearest beanery and had a gelato or expresso at the very least. by relaxing and burning some daylight the pack would be far in the distance and you could resume your cruise unmolested.
