+1 And, love him or hate him, the Pygmy has made many people many $'s. Honda? Toyota? Ford? **** 'em! Cheers, Ian
When (and if) the history is written it will be the rouges and mechanics who made the sport. Not the multi-nationals. That being said there are a lot of great people who ran the big boy's operations.
I don't think so. He's faired just about well at Force India and Williams. I think Sutil is a much more better driver.
Sutil is a convicted felon IIRC. That doesn't bond well with the image of Ferrari towards the sponsors and VIPs.
I agree, but leaving all that conviction thing aside, i'm just saying from a drivers point of view. IMO, Hulkenberg would probably be another Nick Heidfeld.
If he can being the sponsor $$$$, they need to keep Slims Billions from Mexico. Sponsorship is just as important as talent for the mid tier teams....unfortunately.
Seems the appropriate amount of money has changed hands..... Doesn't exactly specify that the airport got paid, just that *someone(s)* did...... Cheers, Ian From Autosport BTW.
Yup. Kobi could loose his seat if Telmex insists on a Mexican driver in which case it is Gutierrez. The crash in Korea didn't help the Japanese. If we end up with two Mexican drivers in F1, I wonder how long it will be until plans for a Mexican GP are being revived. RP, your thoughts?
Mallya......well... this speaks volumes- http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/news-by-industry/transportation/airlines-/-aviation/kingfisher-airlines-debacle-mallya-abroad-son-hunts-for-calendar-girls-employees-in-lurch/articleshow/16898928.cms
Isn't Tavo Hellmund working on that already? Although my guess is he's primarily doing it to hurt Austin, rather than help Mexico .
Every few years there is talk about a Mexican GP but then it disappears again. So I'm not sure what the plans are right now. Besides: It is getting tight on the calendar when NY, Bangkok, Qatar and Sochi join.
There is a lot of talk about a Mexican GP in the works. Here are some recent articles in Spanish (short translation included below) http://televisadeportes.esmas.com/autos/515213/la-f1-vez-mas-cerca-mexico/ "José Abed (former promoter of the Mexican GP during the 80-90s and FIA Vice President) explains that the Mexican GP is closer every day. The FIA and Bernie granted their approval and they only need the local authority's support." http://www.radioformula.com.mx/notas.asp?Idn=273770 "Sergio Perez's father assures that there is work to host a Mexican GP in 2014 jointly with President elect Peña. Jalisco's governor (Perez family home state) is also helping them. The day that the Mexican GP happens there will be two Mexican drivers ." Slim Jr. is obviously behind. He would need to spend quite a bit on money to bring the Hermanos Rodriguez track up to current F1 standards. If he is resolved the Mexican GP will happen.
Very interesting, thanks. We might want to rename the thread into "Track market could get more interesting". What is your take on safety concerns regarding the area where the track will be? Is it safe enough for tourists to travel there?
No offense to the fine people of Mexico, but I have no intention of going there. Too much insanity with the drug wars. Not for me. Don't even want to go to Cancun, which is a shame Kevin PS - and I love Mexican food
I would not be particularly concerned about safety if you stay within the race track compound. The track in Mexico City is located almost next door to the int'l airport. Still the normal caution of a large city applies.
Thanks again. How do you rate Mexico City at this point? By that I mean the touristy areas/places and "normal" behavior (returning to the hotel by 10pm in a marked cab).
