Can't seem to get the inner liner to pop out of my rear fender. Have removed all fasteners, however the liner seems to be held in place by a small metal tab. What's the trick?

It should just slide out. You may need to pry the tab up slightly then back down when you put the fender liner back in.

Mine rotated a bit to get the tab to release. I did need to push a bit on the fender to loosen the edges then it rotated freely. I'll bet it is just stuck from years of use and some dirt.

Consudering where the tab is, you are going to have to pry well over the lip so you can rotate it away from the tab.
    What year is yours?
My 81 does not have in either of the wheels. I normally rotate the well the direction of your tab to clear the lip then back toward the lip (missing the lip).
I will be interested once you get it out how it goes getting it back in.
The right rear for me is a b#%@h to get back in.

    Hello Kevin,
I just removed both of mine from my '89 328. The passenger side was a breeze but I did have trouble with the drivers side. What I did was pry that tab you have in the photo just a tad to get some wiggle room. Just a little, or just enough for you to be able to move the well a bit.
Then, the two screws near the bottom of the wheel well, the ones just near the end of the body (in front of the tire). This is where I made the release of the well.
Once I got the well to move, I kept moving it or rotating it counterclock, clockwise, counterclock, clockwise, etc. Clockwise second b/c the tab prevents a clockwise motion to start.
I then pressed the palm of my hand on the well, right above the tire, UP !! This gave me just enough room to get the well, remember the two screw area, over the edge of the end of the body area.... VOILA !! came out...
It did take me about 10 mins or so... Plus a couple of if Luigi could do it then Giovanni can too...

If you want send me a PM and I'll explain it via cell..

The reason I don’t usually use profanities is to save them for times like taking the inner wells out. No matter how many times I take those &%$#*&^ wells out it never gets easier. While you’ve got them out you may want to use a good undercoat on them – it helps protect them and makes them look like new

Thats what I'm doing as well. I just removed all the haphazard Dinol that was sprayed in them, used an envormental safe mineral spirits and a heavy duty scotch brite and also used some brake cleaner too. Brake cleaner works great (thanks Darrols) however you can go through alot, so I used it to touch up areas that I missed..

The Dinol wasnt coating the entire well either. Its nice and clean now, ready for Wurths Stone Guard coating.....

Oh I also cleaned the rubber trim surrounding the wells too. Used Wurths Cockpit cleaner and then treated them with Wurths Rubber care.... Now they look hydrated and like new..

I'll post pics one I'm all done too...
