My 1987 TR, Had the recall on the passive belts done last year (previous owners didn't bother). Everything is working really well, except just today the drivers red warning light won't go out. Any ideas?

Is the mechanism still working properly? If so, try turning the battery disconnect switch off for a few minutes and then back on (not gaurenteed to do anything beneficial, but not difficult nor expensive to try ;)).

Make sure it is really going all the way back and locking. My passenger side used to hang up before moving fully along the track, loacking, and thus hitting the switch. I have read those switches are pretty fiddly--I recall they incorporate a metal "tang" that actually pushes the switch down, and that sometimes those tangs get bent. You can disconnect the mouse from the track (black button in front of mouse) and move it manually, though I don't recall if a manual locking will turn off the light or if it has to traverse on the track. Unfortunately I am in school tonight and away from my car, otherwise I would check. If noting else you can see if there is any binding along the track.

    Good luck

I tried to switch off the battery disconnect, didn't work. The mouse is smooth and completely locking. everything is working correct. Where is the switch located? Is it that black little tab that slides up and down? Looks like a letter H.

Well, still not solved. Pulled up the console and attached to the end of the passive belts are small electric motors. All seem well, I must repeat, that the seat belt works flawless mechanically, The drivers light just won't go out. I noticed when the passenger side works a sound in the console like a relay clicked then its light goes out. Also I noticed if you disconnect the belt the light wont go out on the passenger side. There must be some sort of contact or ground when the belt is connected. maybe that lies with the problem.

Won't solve your problem, but, if you swap the ECUs (mounted at the front bottom of the center tunnel), you can separate whether the problem is in the ECU or an outlying sensor.

Agree, was going to recommend same step next. If the ECU swap does not isolate, you may also be ble to also swap connections at the central tunnel belt assembly to see if the problem moves with the swap. Unfortunately, if bad that is spared as an assembly (LH/RH), you can't just replace one side.

If the mouse/track all seem OK then I think you are on the right track looking at the reteractors, as I watch my system operate it seems like two events must happen to extinguish the light:
    1) Mouse retracts fully aft and locks in place, and 2) Tension is taken up by the tensioners in the center console.

My step#2 occurs a second or so after step#1, I hear the click and of course see the tensioning occur. After that it still takes a second or two for the light to go out (commanded (I think) by the ECU when all the switches are indicating properly).

Steve I saw a similar post in the Mondial forum by you with this .JPG...you don't happen to have that manual do you... ;) :D

Unfortunately, no -- I've only got that (poor) pic of the cover.

Start the engine with the driver's door ajar. After seatbelt retracts, see if the light goes out. Close the door and be on your way.

I took my 87 TR for a nice ride today, the drivers light was still on. I ignored it, then after a while I noticed it went out on its own. I never got around to trouble shoot it. Well maybe it only had to see a 100mph to correct itself LOL.

David, Mine does exactly what yours does. I give it a little push to seat it and I get a tiny click and the light goes out.
