My 308 was repainted by a PO but the P badge was never put back. I recently purchased a new replacement and want to mount it. I have not taken my left rear wheel well shroud off yet. On line pictures of other cars with the shroud removed shows the left gas tank filling up almost the entire space. Is there room to get at the body's back side? It does not look like I can access the body's back side to apply the badge's push-on clips. Furthermore, I'd like to see if I can locate the old (filled) holes to position the badge correctly. Is that shroud the way to access the back side or is there a better way?

Thanks for any assistance on this.

you are correct, you need to get the gas tank out for the clips.

Check the year, i know we did a brief chat not to long ago on these badges and some cars pending year and model and Euro or US had the badging on different sides.

I think Barry if he chimes in has the exact details on the badging. I seem to recall US steel cars and newer 308s are driver side. By the picture your car looks like Euro, or is it Euro bumpers only ?

Bob, are your wheels chrome or polished?

    Mike,

That is an old picture (from last July) I took before converting to my 16" repos and BFG's in September. The wheels are chromed over the aluminum but unfortunately started pitting while recently in storage waiting a buyer (see my Fchat ad for the tires only now). Not sure what to do with the wheels or if I should get them stripped and painted and sell the tires together with them.

Bob, I replace the original clips with barrel clips. Sold at any autobody supply. Make it easy when waxing the car they just pop off. I have done this on all my cars for years.

I think that's the only way to access the inside of the panel, Bob. I'm sure you'll see the filled holes once you do. It's a tight squueze with the tanks in place as you can see here (my car is a fiberglass GTB with the badge on the passenger side):

If you cannot reach it, 3M makes an emblem adhesive film that sticks pretty darn well!

A good body man would have peened the sheet metal inward to hold the filler from the hole repair, so you may have to carefully redrill that to remount it.

Maybe the adhesive film would be the less invasive method....

I think this might work, at night place a light between the gas tank and the body panel,

dim the garage light and you should see the light going through where the hole

is being covered by the paint from the inside, then mark it from the outside and maybe

you can puncture the holes needed for the barrel clips. Not sure if this is going to work but

    shouldn't hurt to try.

I just did this without remove the gas tank. It's a few inch space. I bend a screwdriver 90 degrees and make the hole from the inside. When you see the mark from the out side you can drill the hole.

Does anyone have a picture of a barrel clip? I'm not sure I know what that looks like (but I think I know).

When you install them put a little grease in the holes , helps prevent rust, becasue it will be bare metal around the rim.
