Has anyone done this - as in fully importing the car, not just on vacation? It's more than 25 years old which simplifies the process regarding emissions, but otherwise is it easy enough to achieve?

Most information about bringing cars in I find is brokers wanting to ship it.

Hello, I did it a few years ago. I was in Quebec for a few months on a work project and decided to buy a used car there rather than renting one. Whent it was time to go home, i decided to keep the car (an Audi wagon, rather difficult to find in the US) and drive it back to California. The whole process was pretty simple. I had to have - oviously - the title/registration, insurance, a document from Audi confirming the car was conforming to North American standards (safety etc) . I drove through Customs at Niagara Falls, they checked the paperwork and - briefly - the vehicle, and i was on my way. A few days later I got to L.A., took the car to the DMV to register it there, they inspected it (I had even bought a spare cluster with miles i/o kms., but they did not care about that). I paid my registration fees and received my new plates and registration. Not as difficult as I feared - I had actually seen a Murcielago there that I was tempted to get, but my wife would have killed me :)

Thank you. Only concern I would have is the Lamborghini Jalpa conforming to North American safety standards, but this was actually a US based car that was exported to Canada so maybe that won't be hard. Other major problem right now is COVID, and weather - they might be more hassle than customs!

Thanks! Sadly, it was in about the condition I expected so shipped it off to Evans for a full engine rebuild.

I liked this one because of the light interior, and the fact it was originally Canna Di Fucile which I plan to return it to!
