Driving LA to NYC, I don't plan on speeding very much but will be running a V1, Trapster, and GPS. Was wondering if anyone would recommend using a scanner? Think it may be fun/help out a bit to hear chatter of whats going on. I don't even know how to use one, anyone offering advice with some experience would be greatly appreciated!

What chatter are you interested in? If its LE chatter you wish to listen to, you would need to know the frequencies used by the LE in the area you are physically in at any given time as radio waves can trave lgreat distances via repeating towers.

If you were to just scan all channels in general you would probably be out of the LE jurisdiction once you found the channel used by the local LE.

    check out www.fmscan.org for starters.

Lastly LE stands for law enforcement.
