Do you drive fast on public roads or do you save high speeds for the track? Basically, how do you drive your Ferrari or any other car? What kinds of roads do you drive aggresively on and which roads do you do more conservatively?

Ferrari's are sold as street legal cars and are built for speed, damn right I drive it fast, what a waste if you don't. Traffic dictates aggresive or conservative.

i not really one to nit pick, but...in the pic (a vette i think), does your car really go 115 mph with out even touching 3k rpm?? that just seems like a super super low gear ratio. sorry to be such a nerd.

I wonder how that one cost? Looks like the speedo reads 115mph ?

I drive maybe slightly over the posted speed limit, really seems most folks do too. Unless I find a "rabbit" thats really going, I may let them run ahead of me about 1/4 mile so they will flush out any potential unfortunate encounters with you know who. But there is still that occational urge that is too strong to resist that makes me streach her leg's abit, especially if there is some twisty's involved too. I know......I'm weak.....should resist........:D

The track is to expensive to race on (brakes....eek!), and Ferrari builds its street cars to be driven on the street. Ferrari's are meant to be driven from 3000 RPM through redline, drive aggresively on roads that allow it, but keep in mind those around you.

I tend to favor the roads. Too much hassle to go to the track.
I go for late bonzai runs on the roads around me. I live in the country and I also have several tollways and highways nearby that I am on frequently. I am more diligent when there is aby traffic around me though. But by me, it is pretty easy to be going in the 120 range on the smaller roads and on the highways reach speeds around 150 to 170. The biggest threat is coming over the hill and being hit with a radar gun by a highway patrolman.

When I'm in traffic I float with the traffic. Alone, I'll open it up a bit. If I can find a rabbit, I'll follow him a quarter to a half mile like the other guy said. I don't use a radar detector any more. by the time it comes on, you're busted. I'm thinking about going back to one because: "If it save your a$$ once, it's worth it."

When ever I get on I-16 I can't help myself but to do a short burst. About 120 in the Miata, 140 in the Datsun, 130 in the RX-7. Haven't done the Ferrari yet passed 100. Just waiting for a clear road being that one must be more careful w/ a Ferrari.

I find it much more fun to haul ass on a two lane back road than go for top speed runs on the interstate.

I also find that the back roads are much less likely to have radar traps.

Well I can see my opinion is not going to be well liked. I think anyone that drives over 120mph on a public highway is an idiot unless you're out in the middle of the desert. But what I think is worse are guys that drive at 8/10ths on city streets thinking they're a talented driver that could challenge the best. The truth is they will end up killing an innocent person, and if they ever did get on a track they would find how totally inadequate they are as a driver. The full potential of a Ferrari cannot be experience on city streets. Pretty much any rice rocket can stay with a Ferrari at 8/10ths on the street. So anyone that thinks they are exploring the limits on city streets is delusional and probably a crappy driver. I'm willing to back up my statements on a track where the men can be separated from the boys.

If you drive fast when it is safe for you and others - you are being conservative! If you drive slow (blocking the fast lane, holding up traffic on a 2 lane, etc) you are driving aggressively!
It has nothing to do fundamentally with the actual speed.

    Cheers

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I see no problem when on a road with no traffic to open it up to whatever I feel comfortable with. The larger the road, the higher the speed. We each have our own thrills in different ways. I love a good speed through nice turns, but I get more enjoyment when exploring speeds up in the 160 and up range whether in my 550 or on my Ducati.
I did find it funny when my wife asked if she could wear a helmet when we go out in the car:)
I really do feel strongly that everyone in the US should drive more like in europe in that when they see someone closing on them from behind to move over to the right and let them go by.
