My friend and I are thinking about going over to Europe this July for the German GP, but we would like to fly into Milan so that we could roam around Maranello and Monza. So, we would have to drive from Milan to the Nürburgring and then to Frankfurt to fly back. How is the drive through Switzerland? Is it easy to get lost when driving through the Alps? Is there a specific route we should take?

    Thanks a lot,

    John

It's not a long road. 680km roughly. I highly recommend www.viamichelin.com if your mater is only to drive, not to road-trip visit on your way from Milan to Frankfurt. It's the best european route calculator site.

On the other hand, what about catching a train?

I drive Milan through Innsbruck to Munich and then north..but it depends also on time of year...as switzerland can be very pretty in summer

No, because, 1. you're going from italy (i highly DO NOT recommend italian trains, especially in summer) 2. You will need to change trains often 3. Will be more expensive 4. and all in all will take you 12 hrs instead of 7 (you have highways all the way).

Even if I do not love train, just give a look at www.trenitalia.com
Some good direct trains during the night.
    Ciao
