Hi all. We are really enjoying country road driving in our 355 Spyder to Sonoma/Marin counties (Santa Rita Road is great!), but are looking for something different. We would like to try down to Half Moon Bay or up to Napa-Yountville, would like to avoid stop-and-go, freeways, rough roads (We tried the road up to the Point Reyes lighthouse- a little rough pavement at the end though the view was wonderful) Any suggestions? Thanks!

Great thread - as a life long Penninsula resident i have a few to put out there:
    - Skyline road - be careful for cops. There are a number of wineries that you have to look up but it starts (or ends) at the top of highway 92 and goes south. Brunch/lunch at Alices. Just past that is Thomas Fogertys. You can drive down to Los Gatos and visit Byintons or hang a left on 9 and drop down to the various other wineries. http://www.winecountrygetaways.com/santa_details-tour2.html

you can go out toward the coast on highway 84 to San Gregorio. Head south and there is a great restaurant in Pescadero called Duarte's - try the 50/50 soup. Great breads at the market across the street.

Head south on highway 1 to Sant Cruz. Just as you are getting into town there is a nice little group of wineries just off the main road including Bonny Doon's tasting room. The Crow's Nest is great for dinner and if you get there for brunch try a little place called Brazil. Take your lady to downtown Capitola - look for the thread about parking and front license plates!

Drive highway 9 or 17 back over the hill - both are great but 9 has a million turns and is a little more nature like. Watch out for fast bikers, cars and a white WRX with a guy named Ben behind the wheel - he will be the one you are tailing and going fast a$$ because you are riding his a$$ - thread below!

if all else fails have fun and exlplore and get lost!

Thanks for the routes! We'll by trying one of them next week, I hope. BTW, we are driving from Oakland, head up 101North to San Antonio Road. (sorry, on original post wrote Santa Rita Road, it's San Antonio Road). The road up to Jenner from San Antonio Road is sweet, as is the road to Point Reyes direction. Lots of curves and fun. Any info on the road going up the coast to Gualala and Mendocino?

HWY 1 up to Medicino is pretty good, but subject to traffic. If you are going that way, try these side routes off Hwy 1

Hwy 128 from 101 to 1. Drive back and forth

Hwy 20 from 101 to Hwy 1 (Fort Bragg) turn around, repeat.

    Stewards Point Rd

You may find that some of us are a bit careful about revealing our fav routes, simply because the gendarmes can also be car enthusiasts when not working, and by reading this forum among others, may be found during their working hours, on those roads. ;)
