Hello all, i'm Tarek, big time auto enthusiast but always been strictly a Porsche nut, have had a few modern 911's but for the past year i've been really into the older air cooled cars, i've bought a 1991 964 & made it my daily drive and simply love it!

Today i had a chance to drive a 99 F355 gated shifter and my goodness it was intoxicating, the engine sound and that click from the gated shifter is just something else. I love the classic looks of the F355, would make a good garage mate to my 1991 C2 ...I've been in newer ferraris and they didn't speak to me as this car did..

The problem is i may have been bitten by the bug now and i 'm going to start the hunt for a F355 Coupe or GTS .. I've thought about a 360 Modena but it maybe too modern for my liking (reminds me of the 993 911 while the F355 reminds me of the 964 911) wish me luck..or better yet wish me to cure myself of this bug and thus save myself a lot of money.

Here is a pic of my 964

The 993 is more like the F355, 964 closer to the 348. 360 Modena is more in line with the 996 water-cooled genre and both most definitely far more modern cars.

in my opinion, having owned both 993 and 964, the 964 is the first 911 that had somewhat modern amenities just like the F355 i'd say, a good working AC, power seats, good radio easier to drive but still maintained that classic feel about it..then the 993 was just too modern. Either way all are amazing machines

Exactly. The handling on both of these cars are improved over the prior models as well as styling.

The 360 = 996. Improved over the last models, but styling is controversial.

No wonder you are hooked. A 964 with 260 HP compared to a screaming F355 with 380 HP, at 8500 RPM. One suggestion, if you find the clicking of the gated shift gate intoxicating and it is speaking to you, avoid the F1 shifter at all costs.

Ok that is a good looking 964.... I too am an air cooled Porsche guy but always loved the older Ferraris. When I was 20 a doctor rolled into a parking lot I was in with a 348 and after the 328 era seeing the 348 for the first time I was all like what the hell is that!

Anyhow the 348 and 355 to me look better than the newer Mcalaren/hot wheels looking variants. They lack a certain sexyness that specifically the 348 and 355 have. Btw this is a very common opinion. So at 50yrs old I just bought a few weeks a go and I opted for the 348 not only because I think it looks better and its burned into my mind, but a few other things. Before you but to compression and leakdown and I am not just saying that I did it myself. Cost me $800 at an indi shop per car. Dogged some bullets.

Either way yes I agree 964= 340 and 993 (my all time favorite Porsche) is more akin to the 355.

With the 964 or even the 993 you park it and walk away, you KNOW you'll stop and turn and stare at the 348/355 every time you get out of it. One magazine back in the day rightly said that alone was worth 30K. 994 in pics looks exactly like a 964 in person, as you found out a 348/355 looks sooo much better in person as pics just do not capture those sexy curves.

Good luck and like they say in Rap vernacular YOLO, so do it before your too old, you may not get there. Ohh and don't buy it as an investment maintain it and drive it and enjoy it. Again YOLO. My opinion only.

    Ohh and get a 348 :):):)

I’ve got to try one of these on for size some day. I’m a big guy and have trouble fitting in a lot of sports cars but sound like this one was comfortable for Matt who is close to the same size as I am.

I can’t fit in a 308 GTB I have to bend my neck no matter how I position the seat. I had a Mondial 3.2 coupe that I fit very comfortably in but in my mind I always thought the Mondial was roomier inside than the 355 but maybe not.

355 hasn’t aged. The white car looks like a punch buggy
