Weren't we originally expecting to see DTM in the U.S. in 2014? Now, we hear they're kicking the can down the road to 2017 and the "steering committee" isn't meeting again until next year's 24 Hours of Daytonner. The logical thing to do would be to add a fly away U.S. venue or two to the existing DTM schedule perhaps at COTA or Homestead as the manufacturers involved with DTM (Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz in particular) are keen to have American presence. DTM has raced in China in the past and will be racing in Russia this year. Why can they not do this in the U.S.? Predictably, the GrandAm baffoons are going to screw this up until it becomes yet another NASCAR undercard series. DTM, Super GT and US series to adopt common rules by 2017 - DTM news - AUTOSPORT.com BHW
I've yet to meet anyone who was... -interested in DTM in the US -thought it was a good idea (just further splitting the manufacturer $$$ pie) -thought it would happen in 2014. don't always believe the press releases, kids.
GrandAM and their corporate overlords at NASCAR are worried that a series with manufacturer support from companies like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, BMW, Honda, Nissan, Toyota/Lexus, etc. and which has events where the spectator counts regularly outnumber Formula One at shared venues is a direct threat to their attempt to monopolize all of racing in North America and they can't figure out how to regulate or deal with. Let DTM put a toe in to a U.S. venue or two and see what a sensation it causes before making a flat announcement that a dedicated U.S. series will happen in a certain time before writing the entire thing off. As usual, the thinking in the fake wood wall paneled offices in Daytonner are two decades behind the times. BHW
