The current issue of CycleWorld has a three page article on the Ducati Hypermotard. It's the closest thing I've seen thus far to a potential statement by Ducati that it might really go into production.

I'm wondering whether anybody knows whether or not it's going to go into production, and what guesses on pricing might be. Wonder if it'll be available in yellow.....

Who the f**K can drift that back tire on pavement with out a little high-side????

Not me and not 99.99999999999999999995 of non-internet-bravado posters.

That thing probably only has about 80hp. Even I could drift the rear tire. It's the 4 cylinder units with over 180HP that cause trouble. That's why they are racing these things, easy to slide.

According to our Ducati rep for our dealership..yes its due out late this year.

ducati sale have been brisk..can't seem to keep the S2R, S4R, or the 620 on the floor!! I want to buy one, but I have to wait until all the customer orders are filled..then I can get one under the Ducati employee plan...All the 999S models are sold out for the year, and we just ordered another 5 999 (standard) to fill orders!!...Fianally got my hands on 999R Fila edition..very cool..but definatly NOT good for the street..they like to run hot! Had to replace the carbon fiber side fairing on it under warrenty..$5800!! Bike was just sold for 30k CND 1600km on the clock.

I'm really starting to like these things...wasn't too keen on them before, but now that the warmer weather is back..riding is going to be a very welcome change!!

Cant wait to ride one. Low hp and light weight can be a hoot. I have a bast with my DRZ400, ~30hp.

rear wheel drifting? Yeah, it happens. Cant say that I do it INTENTIONALLY, but it happens quite a bit when racing, rolling on coming out of a corner. The key is to roll on smoothly and if you do spin the rear tire... DONT PANIC. Be smooth, be calm. Turn 2 a Sears is a classic place to get a little spin up on exit... also a classic place to have it turn into a highside :D.

now backing into a corner? yes, that happens intentionally. Different though. A little easier to control. Still not optimal, but if ya gotta go deep, and need to square off the corner, it can be done fairly easily. I dont have a huge dirt bike background so it doesnt come natural to me, it still gets a little "exciting" when it happens.

I've seen a lot of GSXRs. I've only been up close to one guy who would consistently steer one with the rear wheel though.

Point being I don't see where this bike is any better or worse than a bajillion other bikes out there when it comes to posing. Either that or the high school kids in your area are one heck of a lot more talented than the CBR jockeys I see around here each day.

    Texas!

Hmm... you think that some of these folks might be posers themselves?

As one who raced dirt bikes as a kid (back before there was such a thing as motocross), these bikes look mega cool to me. Yeah, don't know that I'd ever drift the real wheel. But I bet that this bike and others are a gas to ride.

    Hmm... "Miura Jota"...

Wasn't the one true Jota destroyed decades ago by an over enthusiastic (under talented?) owner? So you don't own one... or if you do, it's a fake. An expensive fake. Let's see... the name... the high price...

    Hey... Are you a "poseur"?

And Lamborghini is owned by... I've lost track. Is it still the Germans??? So Lamborghini is now a German company? Like it matters, they still build nice cars...

Gotta say, just silly to say a bike is a poser bike because it has a great heritage, and may cost a bit more than the "average" bike out there.

Craig, Besides the sportbikes I ride I also have a supermoto. I run a ATK 605 as both an enduro for the desert or Mexico, and as a supermoto. I've got the 17" excels and talons with a motomaster 320mm break set up. I can tell you, it is the most fun I've ever had on a street bike. Complete hooligan bike. I race occasionally in the STARS series here on the West coast. The ATK is a bit heavy for a race bike, with the very tight tracks used, but is just awsome for the street. With only 55hp, it's just as fast in the tight mountain roads as any of my superbikes. I'm presently converting my CR 500 over to supermoto for the street. It is already street registered. 70HP and 225lbs is just too much fun. One thing I know is, I'll push a lot harder, late braking and backing it in on a supermoto, than on a (very expensive to fix) superbike.

    Darrell.
