Today, the weather was kinda chilly. I decided to go for a carwash instead of home hand wash. I usually go to another Carwash, but decided to support this new business next to Ferrari of Washington by the name of Dulles 28 Auto Wash Located at 45215 Towlern Drive, Dulles, Virginia 20166 , Phone Number 7034211070 , www.dulles28autowash.com What a bad mistake!!

I always ask at the door, if my car will fit and if there will be any problems with it since it's lowered. The guy chargng and the people at the wash that direct you all gave thumbs up. I re-questioned a few times, "Are you Sure?" just to make sure. Paid and started going toward the lane.

I slowly drive the car up the ramp and looking at the direction the dude is giving me and bang my Carbon Fiber Splitters hits and break. I come out, and the guy who was directing me in comes up with some Bull **** about my car is lowered and it should not had been there. Story short, after calling the manager out and the owner, they did not take responsibility even after I made sure right before buying the wash that my car would fit. She wouldn't even refund my wash, that I didn't get and that was a conversation of it's own.

STAY AWAY! Horrible Service, a $10 wash turned into a loss of $700 worth of Carbon Fiber CSL Splitters, still a dirty car and stress.

Why would you even attempt to take a lowered car into a carwash? Common sense......

    +1!!!

Not the car wash's fault... And why would anyone lower a street car anyway. Yeah, it looks nice, but it makes driving one on the street completely impractical.

I'm surprised they are getting any business at all. They have signs up EVERYWHERE trying to get customers to come in. They have people out spinning signs all day as well. The only business i see them get is from the Washington Flyer Taxi cabs.

As others have said, i would NEVER take a lowered car into a car wash. If you were concerned about your car, and really cared enough about it...why would you still then even try and make it through?

My car is always clean. I do 4hr wash, every weekend from wax, to vacuum you name it. In Spring due to our changing weather and lots of rain every other day, I gotta rely a bit on car washes to have a clean car. But that was the end of that for sure. For those saying you get what you pay for, it's not so much of what you pay for. All Carwashes have packages up to even $50-$75 it's a waste getting the companies $50 wash since it will rain the next day. So instead I do a lot of $10 washes frequently. Also I thought by going to these people, since their equipment was cleaner and newer (New Business), it would had been better.

It's not slammed or anything, by a definition of drop for 99% of people who drop their cars, this isn't even a drop. It drop the car by maybe 0.6 in Back and 0.9 in Front.

See these Black Carbon Fiber Splitters on each side: http://photos-e.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-snc1/v2135/118/94/68101019/n68101019_37079980_232.jpg , They are no longer there, they got cracked from the bottom and middle.

Not slammed as noted earlier, and every time you lower the car's center of gravity, the car drives a bit better, also for cosmetic reasons. If you look, see nothing crazy. If I didn't tell you it was dropped, you wouldn't probably know: http://photos-f.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc1/hs034.snc1/2412_606277758032_68101019_37149341_239_n.jpg

Have you looked into adjustable coil-over kits for your M? It only take minutes to adjust from track height to car wash height...

    Nice Bimmer!

to get back to the original subject, I too once washed the car there and decided never to do it again. This was my plain vanilla leased 535xi that I never hand wash, always car wash on the place on Connecticut near the burger king who do an OK job for $18. I wanted a wash that included cleaning the wheels. The only option to get the wheels cleaned ended up being a $28! I said ok since it was really dirty and I was there already, it took them forever to wash this car, whole point of a car wash is to be in and out and when I got it back it had not been dried properly, wheels still had wheel dust on it, generally no better a wash than a DIY at an exxon gas station. I'd avoid that place as well.

Just lowering a car does not always improve handling. It changes Roll Centers, Wheel rates, Camber Gain, Bump Steer and other things. Often with negative affects on handling.

In most cases it likely affects most of these characteristics negatively. Suspension design is complex and a final design is usually a compromise on all aspects for the best all around results given the application. In the case of lowering cars though in small amounts it probably doesn't make much of a difference. A lowered car will usually have more negative static camber but the most affected trait is the increase in bump steer.

    Didn't Richard lower the Beast?

I wonder how that black, bad boy 360 handles now that it has been lowered?!
Beast - are you around? care to comment from first hand account?
Did it have negative affects on handling for your car?

I've seen several BMWs lowered, including my own 3-series back in 1995 -- it seemed to have improved handling, but I'm just an amatuer driver anyway, having never tracked the car before or after lowering. It seemed to handle better IMHO and certainly looked more aggressive.
