Autocross was about to start this season when I realized that the insides of my rears were almost to the cords. I always suspected that the old Dunlop SP Sport 9000 tires I had were well below the current offerings in performance and boy was I right. I picked up a set of Direzza ZII Star Specs for the car (225/45R17 Front and 255/40R17 Rear) and it's shocking how much better the car turns in now...

The difference in front grip just completely changes the car. I compared my times at events to known national competitors with unchanged setups since last year and it already looks like I gained 3.5-4 seconds on a 60 second course just from the tire switch (that's a TON). Overall these tires lost a bit of steering feel at road speeds and the car feels a little softer with them on. However, at the limit the feel has not diminished at all. They still give a ton of feedback before breakaway. If you're looking for some high performance street tires to try on a 348, I really like these so far in ~150 street miles + 1 autocross. As they say, tires are the single most important performance mod you can make to a car, and one of the cheapest (tires + mounting was about $850 after shipping). I'll try to update this after more miles and events to review how long they last...

Actually they do, but I suspect a Texan's idea of "hot" is different than yours. ;)

Agree they're great tires though, and I suspect they'd be a good match for an F-Car.

Just fitted these to my 530hp 930. Great traction and great braking. Previously had pilot cup sports. These are better again.

I currently run these on my Exige. Good tire. Great price. A Falken employee secretly tells me their rt-615k comes from the same manufacturer, so performance should be nearly identical. They are working on getting me a set, so ill be trying them out in a few weeks to see if I like em. Just throwing this out there so we have more size choices. Star specs are symmetrical pattern. 615s are not.

Interesting, I used to have the original 615s on my mr2 traction was terrible after a few laps. I switched to the starspecs and never looked back. I recently just put a new set of the new gen 615s on my mr2 so we'll see how these respond.

We run these in Lemons racing. They last one race on the front and then two on the rear.
