Duplicate registrations in the race thread? [Possible spoilers ;)]

Hey,

I can't find it now, but weren't there "tales" of some users doing the ol' "duplicate registration" trick so as to allow 'em to hide and make inflammatory posts with (supposed) impunity?

Was anyone perma-banned? [for thats the rule in this case is it not?] Just wondering....

Indeed - Him and/or Wax IIRC.

It did appear (and this is from memory) that the perpetrator(s?) were identified by our ever diligent mods based both on ip addresses and "writing style".

Then the posts all vaporized. [Without any bans being issued?]

This is nothing more than speculation, but if true strikes at the heart of the integrity of the site - Some folk would appear to be "above the law", and if nothing else I'd like to join the exclusive club that allows rules to be broken, identities to be falsified and inflammatory posts to be made without revealing true identity.....

If we can find a reasonable match on a ID (not necessarily exact, but 'good enough'), the sockpuppet gets permabanned and the primary typically gets a long ban. If there's a second ID created *during* a temp ban, then the primary goes away for a long time -- sometimes permanently.

In the case of the latest round of trolls, one appeared to be a reregistration of an already-permabanned user. That one went away. The other didn't match anyone, but was banned for a while for trolling.
