I have several proposal of rebuilt new dynamo (paris-rhône and other, not very expensive) with the same caracteristics but I prefer a magneti marelli DN2A for my 195 engine.

I have a supply of new alternators, specially made, that look like the dynamo. Small batch made to suit 250 series. Maybe suit earlier cars as well.

    Interested ? [email protected]

Here is another idea. Check out your local marine store. I lived on a sailboat for 12 years mostly off shore and needed a good supply of DC amps. I had a bank of three "house" deep cycle storage batteries of 500 amps each. Your magneto/dynamo won't charge up one of these very well but you can hitch it up to a good plug in battery charger and when fully charged it will last you a long time on the road. You want it issolated from your start battery to keep the start battery charged but I think you could solve your problem and keep you original magneto in tact. just one man's opinion tongascrew

I don't recall hearing about these cars being unable to keep their batteries charged during night racing in period. Does anyone else?

If this is correct then proper servicing should sort them out

In period races they didn't drive through stop and go traffic. At racing speeds this wasn't an issue, either was overheating so you didn't need a fan.

    Cheers

    Yes, of course you're right.

Then what about period problems with maintaining battery power under normal road use? Haven't heard this reported either, but am open to correction. Overheating I have heard.

As said earlier, the batteries have changed. They are designed to operate with alternators (with power up to 10 times more - several kWs that is!) where lack of power is not an issue anymore.

    Best wishes, Kare

For earlier cars there is no pully, they are directly connected to the engine (and thus lower revs).
Mine is ready next week. Have to change the main wire as well (higher amps), will post some pics, but looks identical as the MM.

    ciao
    Oscar

ps Mark, they llok nice (although a little to new.....)

    Oscar,

I was about to suggest the uprated wiring, but you have it on your to do list already.

What about the driver for the alternator: is it strong enough for the extra load? I would imagine it is, but I think I'd take it into consideration, as a failed part in that train is sitting behind the timing cover and is connected to a lot of stuff that is essential to the survival of your prescious engine. With only the original equipment to supply with electricity I wouldn't worry about it, but if you are running extra cooling fans and strong lights, for instance, there is a significant extra load.

I just saw this photo of the 250GT engine in #0138 at Fantasy Junction. It looks like it has an alternator on the end of the dynamo case. Not very pretty in my opinion, or is it something else?
