Well, I'm back from the dynamometer run. Here are the results.. Not too bad for a car that came out of the factory with 180 HP at the crank. Dave M. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Nice numbers! As good or even better, than a lot of the carb 308s that I've seen tested at our local Dyno Day events.
Very very nice numbers from 2.4 liters!! DIN or SAE? Any tweaks? Beautiful car - must be a goer, eh? Wink wink, nudge, nudge! best rt
"Huh, sometimes she has to go, yes." (Are you insinuating something?) Back on topic. SAE, although the conversion is very slight from DIN to SAE, is it not? A couple little changes to the car. Has higher compression pistons 10.5:1 (recollection, might be slightly lower) we've replaced the US spec distributor with a Euro spec 3 lobe one, Dinoplex ignition (New, from Superformance) and tweaked slightly the jetting on the carbs. (I can dig that up if you're interested.) All of the smog junk is off the car, too. Factory stock U.S. Spec. was 175 BHP and 160 lb.ft. of torque I think? Guy running the dyno figured about 20% loss through the drivetrain for the car, so the engine HP might be as high as 210, and torque about 180. DM
Really quite impressive - I think the compression ratio is where you really picked up the ponies as well as the open exhaust. I absolutely agree you are well over 200 hp with that rwhp. As always, I'm wildly interested in the Weber jetting - and any Air/Fuel graphs you may have done on the dyno. Congrats on one terrific 246 Dino! In addition to having the best Ferrari interior ever, it's now one of the strongest 246's, with more hp than many 308s... best rt
For inquiring minds as to original specs - this from the May 1972 R&T road test. With that hp increase, it's safe to say you could well better those stats. Way cool. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The European Dinos had 195 SAE net horsepower; this was the number that was also in the owner's manual of my 1972 Dino 246 GTS (since sold). The Road & Track article is using an estimate of 175 hp for the effect of emission controls.
Yup. Forgot to mention the Stebro exhaust. Here's what we did to the carbs, pump jets part #72615.045 .5mm pump demand valve #64290.014 1.00 mm venturi 32mm #72129.320 Dave
