I have been watching the e-bay Ferrari auctions for a couple of months now and it looks to me as if only about 20 to 30% of the cars shown are sold. Is that right? Why go to the trouble of placing an ad if you don’t want to sell the car? What am I missing here? Will someone please line me out here?
    Thanks

I gotta believe many sellers, especially the dealers, use ebay as a form of advertising because the Buy It Now prices are ridiculously high.

That % still sounds too high. I tried selling my Ducati and twice had "winners" pull out. In the end put it on traderonline and it sold for a lot more.
I still wonder why someone would ever sell a decent car on ebay when they could get way more in a local sale..................

    Ebay generates leads. Cheap advertising.

traderonline huh? I may have to give it a try. I tried selling a Harley on ebay and didn't get anywhere near my reserve.

I had my Sea Ray for sale on Ebay and each time I listed it I had over 2,ooo hits. The guy who bought my boat first saw it on Ebay then came to see it in person. Great way to advertise something for sale!

I think the percentage of actual sales is probably below 5%. That said, it can work for some. I have had much better luck selling through the local paper. With web sites like cars.com your local ad also gets exposure to buyers nationwide.

I have bought two cars that I found on ebay. I like the volume of pictures and easy link to carfax, etc., that dealers will include in their ads. Bikini ads are just for grins!
