For all you Lambo owners out there, I've always had the question about if E-gear goes through clutches faster? This is assuming one knows how to drive and doesn't ride the clutch/slip the clutch.

I ended falling in love with the E-gear as I've never had any cars with paddles. But then now I'm thinking for the street E-gear might be boring. My commuter has an auto and I think it might take the fun out of an exotic on the street. Hands down I bet E-gear/F1/SMG/etc would be awsome for the track.

    Any insite is greatly appreciated.

FYI - I've done a search previous to posting this reading everything on E-gear/clutch/6-speed. Can't really find anything/anyone that says E-gear wears faster or not. Everyone just seems to say it depends on the driver and I do agree. But seems the general concensous is E-gear can be a pit problematic. Pureists like the 6-speed. Some clutches are 25K miles plus on the original but they don't specify if E-gear or 6-speed.

I guess if the same driver drove both E-gear and 6-speed what one would need a clutch replacement 1st?

Reason why I ask if I don't garage queen the car. My previous F-360 6-speed I put over 12K miles on it in a year. With the dependability of the Lambo's I want to do even more.

called James at Bellevue Lamborghini Service? He is always willing to help, and can give you some real data. I swear he told me the e-gear disappears clutches at a higher rate (as noted by the frequency that they replace em.) Purists will always go std. shift and the early adopters will tend to go flappy paddles. Having previously been an early adopter of an SMG/F1 I am not going back. Made me look like a 15 yr old learning to drive stick in traffic. Either slips, or lurches. (No starbucks with e-gear!)

    Good luck with the choice!

The clink when the gear changes would be enough to make me buy a 6 speed:D

I work at a dealership and have recentley asked the service manager the same question as I'm interested in purchasing a Gallardo for myself.
The part number for the clutch is identical. The wear depends on the driver. The service manager has not seen one last longer than the other. That said, I think your decision should be based on what your driving habits and preferences are. For me I realized I'd need an e-gear because I would do mostly city driving. I have a 6-speed in my Elise now and it's no problem, but sometimes I borrow a 6-speed Gallardo and I find it to be a lot of work in the city. I've driven both on the track and preferred the 6-speed. E-gear is better for tooling around in. Also, many improvements have been made since e-gear was first introduced in 2004. Just my two cents. :)

    Manual.

I got bored after few months with Egear & the early generation is crap, you can feel/hear it slipping etc. Especially bad when moving off & negotiating upslope carpark rams.

A sportscar is supposed to be involving, to thrill you, to engage you, to test your skills but if you want a one car that does all. Get E-gear & find a post 06 model with improved soft/hardware+shorter gear ratios.

Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

However, IMO the 6 speed is much more fun to drive and it gives you a more complete control over the car. On the other hand, the E-gear is more efficient and easier to drive fast in curves or on a race course (how many F1 cars have manual transmissions? :) ).

My advice would be; if you're not comfortable with a six speed (i.e. it's not second nature to you and/or part of your natural reflexes so to speak) then the E-gear is for you.

Bottom line; both are excellent in their own right and as written sooooooooo many times on this forum "it's a matter of personal preference PERIOD" :)

Not an owner, but I've driven a couple. First time, I drove a Roadster w/ E-Gear and thought it was pretty cool. But then I drove a 6.2 Coupe w/ a 6-speed stick, and it was amazing. That's not to say the E-Gear is worthless in the fun department (it is a Lambo, after all. :D ), but the E-Gear is really only better in terms of traffic. The 6-speed drawback was the time it took to learn it properly, even after driving a Diablo just months before. But since I'm expecting a LP640 drive soon, I can only hope that baby has a 6-speed. :)

But in my choice, it'd be 6-speed. I can't comment on the wear because I personally don't know whaich I'd wear out first though it'd probably be the 6-speed.

ive not tried an L car with paddles (but then apart form simple curiosity i wouldnt want to) but i have driven a few other makes with them - On certain cars its "ok" but not on a supercar.
ferraris and lamborghinis are all about the driving experience, and part of that is surely the tactility of the controls and you lose so much when u lose the gearlever.

if you cant handle "stick" then either learn to (its not difficult and will make your drivng that much more pleasurable) or if you cba or dont want to learn it then buy something else. :p

I have an 06 SE six speed and the clutch is bullet proof. I have done at least 40 power launches( 30 in stock mode and 10+ as a 700+ hp Heffner TT G) and the clutch is in great shape at around 6.5k miles.

Due to the design of the egear system, the clutch gets more wear in tear in first gear, which may have an impact on clutch life.
