A friend of mine is looking at a 98 M3, with (ugh!) 60K miles. Does this seem too high to you guys, and for any owners, are there any particulars to watch out for? the car is I believe a generally reliable model, but it will be a convertible, and an auto to boot. Any insite will be helpful.

    TIA

I owned several E36 M3s, and in general they are quite bulletproof. I had a problem with the gas gauge on both cars, a known E36 weak spot. 60k is only 10k a year, doesn't seem like high mileage to me. As with any used car, ask for maintenance records and run a Carfax. For the price, the E36 M3 is one of the great bargains out there, although I personally would prefer a manual coupe.
