Bah... a hair brained scheme in my opinion. Just like the wings of an airplane there are a lot more angles to contend with before this piece has any positive effect. I'm quite sure it'll be more of a visual aid than an actual aerodynamic aid. The air movement over the top of the car is equally critical and if not balanced with the air underneath the diffuser, or directed with more under body panels it is worthless or even a drawback. I was working with BMWCCA race cars a couple years back and the guys I worked with were trying to use a Porsche GT3 rear wing replica. Eventually by accident it was discovered to create more drag than downforce on our particular E36 race car. The moment it was removed the car gained 1sec a lap...after many weekends of consistent times.
OK where will the exhaust exit? Silly if you ask me since there are plenty of pieces made for the E46. *****the responses on the BMW forum are hilarious.
its been done before (and looked sh*t then too) http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=338501

As stated, it probably isn't really doing anything. The exhaust outlet where the tranny on the 430 would be is cool though.
