E6 error - climate control 348ts

Hi all. After troubleshooting the climate control E6 error for a few hours the error has finally gone away. The trick was cleaning and re-seating the yellow connector on the back on the central unit. That is a scary piece of wiring that feels lego like. One part I cannot figure out is why the directional air buttons work only after selecting recirc. Then it has a mind of its own though at least cold air comes through now.

Is this the flap causing vent directional issues under the bonnet?
