Good points. I have no idea if these things did or didn’t happen, but it’s definitely possible.

 

NGSC Dan did post a follow-up reply in the Youtube comments saying he was scheduled to do a full video of the car later that week that would give all details, but then Art changed his mind and wouldn’t allow it.

 

Who would believe that load of BS? Easy excuse long after the fact. If that was myself or most others, we would have removed the original video…..

We can’t say for sure that the 458 was an absolute fake. It definitely was NOT a mechanically actuated gear lever and clutch.

At best, it was a shift-by-wire / clutch-by-wire control system that allowed full (indirect) manual control of the selected gear and clutch position (somewhat similar to the Koenigsegg CC850.) At worst, it was just a fancy set of switches that simply replicated the paddle shifters. Since no one who has driven the car is talking, we’re left to speculate what it actually was. But it definitely was not a conventional manual.

I agree that a clutch pedal wasn’t clearly visible, but we cannot definitely say there was not any clutch at all. It could have been a small black pedal tucked away in the corner. Without seeing the car in person, it’s just speculation and not definitive proof.

I think most people are basing the 458 manual on Art’s reputation, and if that’s the main factor, then it’s probably a complete fake. But again, no one has seen it or driven it.

 

This isn't a murder case in a court of law; there is no clutch pedal. That is way beyond a reasonable doubt.

No one has seen it or driven it is even more reason to KNOW this never worked. How many people drove that 430 Scud before it was even finished? I mean **** it was like the YouTube community bicycle. If he pulled off a 458 manual you bet your ass everyone and their mom would have been driving it and posting a video.

I'm willing to bet a grand it wasn't a clutch-by-wire system. At best, it would be a "neutral-by-wire" system which truly isn't anywhere near suitable for any application.

I'd also love to see a 1-4 gearshift. Or 5-2.
