I just finished watching the video - the 458 “e-manual conversion” actually does have a clutch pedal!

 

watched the livestream, starts at 45min for anyone else who doesn't want to sit through the whole thing.

Dan is all over the place in that video. Said he never promoted the car, didn't say anything about it, there were two different 458 manual projects, the article wasn't the car shown in the video, etc...then said there was a real clutch pedal, of which he provided no proof. Then said an electronically controlled DCT is still a manual transmission...I mean cmon.

Considering the contradictory claims throughout the whole live stream, I wouldn't exactly take his word for gospel.

Edit: I think I ought to be clear since Dan will read this. I don't have any problem with Dan at all, the YouTube channel, the dealership, the parts store -- he's out here working hard and making a living. If Dan is ever selling a car or parts I want at a compelling price, I will absolutely buy it from him.

That said, I don't think he is handling this situation with grace and I struggle to trust him when it comes to the EAG situation. Given that I'm not an investor, customer, or prospective customer -- it doesn't really matter.

I have worked with other vendors who have handled issues with much more transparency and honestly and I hold them in incredibly high regard as a result.

 

I'm surprised Hurlburt (Sp?) doesn't have more "fans" willing to do his bidding and defend him. That's been the biggest surprise for me. Where are all his "fans"?

 

I don't. Haven't since the 430 DIY days. After that it got to be the same clickbaity car youtuber kid crap that still exists today.

 

Realistically Dan is making very little on his YouTube channel, with his viewership I'd expect it to be maybe a few hundred a month on the high end

 

To be fair to Dan, a lot of the people asking questions on his live stream had names I recognized from here and on the Facebook groups. It is interesting because most exotic automotive youtubers seem to have a following of people who have no experience with anything the youtuber is presenting, yet think they know everything. Here it appears to be the opposite. The people asking questions have experience with the cars, but choose to not to publicly defend the channel. Perhaps they think we aren't friendly with youtubers here. (I wonder why...)

I will say, I have a hard time giving a youtuber the benefit of the doubt of being a good person because every time I have dealt with one, it was unpleasant. I've helped out many people on here for free. When I do, they often offer to buy me drinks if I'm ever in their neck of the woods and we often become friends. They generally go out of their way to return the favor later or reciprocate in some way. Every time I've helped a youtuber, they have acted like I owe them something. When I gave, they didn't thank me, and instead they asked for more. If I couldn't help them despite trying, they never bothered thanking me for my time.

I have a friend on the YouToobes who went from $75-90K/month, down to sub $5K after their algorithm change.

He was spending it faster than it came in, and it's been humbling to watch the decline of inflowing cash, and what that does to an ego.

I suspect you've dealt with just that type before, they don't "need" you, until they need you...And then it's a holier than thou attitude, until the next time they need you...

An incredibly pompous way to operate. But it's good to know there are dudes on here who would help in a minute, and a beer is fair payment. Been there too, can't say enough about the e-friends FChat has created in my life.

 

Exactly. I'm sure that not every youtuber fits the mold I described in my previous post, but sadly, most do it seems.

The people here have been amazing, but if you walk in here acting like you are better than everyone and the world owes you something because you filmed yourself doing the same **** we do, you're not going to receive a warm welcome.
