I'm a HUGE TIFOSI and because of that, I've always wanted to learn Italian, though I've never had the urge to buy a "Rosetta Stone" or anything similiar to that, because I would rather learn from someone who's authentically Italian from Italy, obviously. Only problem with that is finding someone who actually teaches Italian, rather than taking a college class, which is again, something I didn't want to do if I didn't have too. I know it sounds funny, but when I picture learning Italian, I think of a "Karate Kid type situation," where I'm "Danielson" and my teacher is "Mr. Miyagi." That type of one-on-one teaching. PM me or drop me a post if anyone has any suggestions on a teacher or any "leads" to finding somone. Also, if anyone has actually, FLUENTLY learned Italian with Rosetta Stone or something, please let me know how it was and if you would recommend it. Grazie mille! Ciao!

Good luck. I picked up some CD's to start. Drive time Italian (I thought they were appropriate). Throw em' in on my drive into work. Good way to start learning the basics.

How old are you? Serious question... the part of the brain that works best for learning
new languages is strongest from birth to around 6, and by 18 has faded quite a lot.
Past 40, learning a new language FLUENTLY gets significantly more difficult and other
parts of the brain not associated with language are pushed into service, often with
    dubious results.

Ask me how I know :):)

I'm 29 and I know what you mean, but I really want to do this, so I'm pretty sure I'll catch on, hahah. Why? You have any suggestions?

I'd suggest Rosetta Stone or classes at a local college.

I was having good results with Rosetta Stone though I didn't follow through with it unfortunately. I would say I was learning more from Rosetta Stone when I used that than I was from my Italian class in school. As far as knowing anyone that was able to fluently speak Italian after? I gave my buddy a copy of the program as he wanted to see how he'd do with it. Mind you, he already spoke a little bit of Italian - conversational - and after using Rosetta Stone for a few months he was very impressed with the results, so was his fluent Italian speaking Grandmother. Just food for thought :).

    Buona fortuna!

If you learn the following phrase over and over, its all the Italian you will ever need to know, at least as far as cars goes....

"Stavo guidando molto veloce, allora ci era un odore di bruciarsi ed ora l'olio è dappertutto il pavimento ed il motore più non funziona, io pensa che abbia un problema"

    Hope that helps..

Hahahahha, my "google translator" worked on that when I placed my mouse over it. Very nice, but that would apply to the older cars maybe, but not the newer ones. Thanks though for the help! Grazie mille! Ciao!

In seriousness, Ive used the Rosetta Stone CDs and they are a very good basic grounding..BUT you have to be consistant in using them and the thing that I found most difficult was trying to find the hour a day which you could devote to it without constant interuption. I started this a few months before I spent a week at the Lamborghini factory, and to my dismay, found everyone so very accomodating and spoke excellent English....although I thought it very amusing when one lovely young lady apologized for her bad English, as she said she was so used to speaking German to all the executives.
