Just talked to a friend who has a 246GT, 1970 that he's interested in selling. The car is in good driver condition overall (with a couple of caveats). Has not been on the road in a couple of years and needs the brakes overhauled. Right now it'll go, but it won't stop. Interior needs a re-do, but the car has a replacement vinyl interior kit from Re-Originals that I'm guessing the owner will toss in. Owner claims approximately 17K miles. I've only seen pictures so I can't verify that. Will need paint in the next few years, appears rust free, has been in SOCAL for the last 20+ years. Assuming all else is as described, driver condition, vinyl interior, NO BOOKS, NO TOOLS, I'm looking for your input as to market value. Here are a couple of pictures that may help, a little. Dave M. I'm going to guess between 70k and 90K Prices have been on the upswing the past year. GTS's are $100K plus.
An instant sell at around $75k. A one year sell at around $110k. Parabolic curve for prices / sales dates in between. BT
$70k was the price for a car like this two years ago, not today. based on what has been sold and what has come up for sale, the car is in the 6 figures
Boy, I'd say that's low. Top-notch GTSs are fetching 175-185. Hard to say from four photos, and I'm no expert, but it looks like a car that could be brought close to show standard for $40-50K (assuming that there are no hidden major issues). Given that, I would think it would be worth at least $100K. Just a SWAG.
top notch cars have brought more than this. i agree with the cost of making the car a nice driver - and that assumes a pretty much worse case scenario given the photos of the car. dave, what do you know about the engine and gearbox?
They are original to the car. condition is still up in the air, as it won't stop, it's a bit hard to run it through the gears. I'm expectiing some info on the compression in a few days, I'll advise as I learn more. DM
There is an early GT for in the FCA newsletter that I received this weekend and I recall the asking was $139k
Aloha...1970 would make it an 'L' series with knock-offs and aluminium doors/hood .......must be a later model...an L would be worth more IMO... rust?? engine/trans overhaul $30k paint 10K misc and brakes $10k better you buy one already done IMO for$135-150 gregg 206GT 00350
This may be an "early" model but I don't think this is an L model. The details are different, such as door key location, non spinner wheels, bumpers, etc. Maybe a M model ? IMHO Jimmy
Aloha... misc and brakes = $10k ? This number has got to be including quite a bit of latitude in the "misc" to add up to $10k, as I performed a full brake job last year including new front rotors, pads, flex lines, ATE blue fluid, etc from dinoparts and it was a fraction of this. Dino brakes are not very complex compared to modern cars. If your intention was to list a conservative number for general mechanicals, then I think I know what you mean.
Serial number I don't know. I do know it's a 1970 manufacture date. I'll try to get the serial number from him later today. DM
