    Understand that early Spiders have no access to engine-compartment subframe attachment bolts, and so require more labor for many types of routine service and top was redesigned at assembly #41464 to remedy the problem.

    Looking at a 01 spider, what's easiest way to determine if car is one of the early batch?

    If I remember correctly:
    With the top stopped midway and the cover up, there should be four rubber plugs in the bottom of the top storage area. These plugs can be pulled to access the subframe bolts.

    A number of earlier spiders have had holes cut retrospectively by dealers and indys to make it easier to remove the frame and access the top of the fuel cells.- Including mine.
