I have been reading quite a few threads here on the 612 and had a spin in one over a mountain pass and it would seem these might be one of the most underrated Ferrari's. They seemingly tick many boxes, super GT car one minute, mountain pass blaster the next and then there are the looks which I really like when its considered the car which seemingly inspired the car.

My thinking a 2004 might not be a bad buy, no CCM to worry about and it would seem the gearbox is only marginally faster in the OTO cars. I also prefer the earlier simpler interior.

Reading through threads there do not seem to be too many downsides to the 612 or is there something I have overlooked?

    Interested in opinions!

Early 612s work fine with an uprated 575M engine and 599-style all aluminum chassis and body. Minimum shift speed is 180 ms in early F1 612s and 100 ms in the Sessanta and OTO, so the OTO is a bit more than marginally faster. Suspension bushings wear pretty quickly on the 612 and 599 (and 360 and F430), but other than that, very reliable.

Are there updated/improved suspension bushing that can be installed when replacing so this issue is mitigated in the future?

    Thanks!

Yes, I had a look there are quite a few different suppliers to get suspension parts so there are a few options in that regard and as you say the 360 and 430 also wear these parts fairly quickly. An interesting aside some parts for a 308 restoration I am project managing were actually cheaper when bought from the Ferrari dealer than from places like Eurospares and Superformance.

Hill Engineering has superior suspension parts for the 612 and many parts are common with the V8s.

Prekom are another excellent option for improved aftermarket suspension components.
