Turns out I did try to buy one of his cars. A couple of years ago, his red ‘66 was on PCARMARKET for sale. It didn’t meet reserve so I called him back to see if we could put a deal together. We agreed on the “Buy It Now” price as advertised. (I *think* it was $49,500 but can’t remember the exact number). The car had serious rust issues underneath to the point that it was not safe to drive. But, we agreed that I would pay his asking price per PCARMARKET Deal Tank. My plan for the car was not to bring it back to show car status. My plan for the car was to weld new metal into the chassis, paint the car, a new interior and to just drive it like it was. When I texted him for his wiring info, I got a text back saying, “I can’t sell the car that cheap. I’ll take 60k for it”. That was more than we agreed and more than his advertised price. I came down pretty good on him for raising the price after we had an agreement…plus…for going up on his advertised price. His angry response was, “That price on PCARMARKET is NOT the price I told them!” At that point, there wasn’t enough trust for me to wire someone that kind of money who hadn’t kept their word. He tried to blame the whole thing on the auction site.

“On the right is a 1966 911 with a factory sunroof in Polo Red with a white deck and boot.”……

I knew I’d seen that car somewhere before. ;)
