While it is interesting to learn that Cavallino number 1 was given away for free to generate interest...that is only part of the story. Once issue two arrived and later issues things changed somewhere along the way. Someone (John?) decided for what ever reason that it would be a good idea to mail the Cavallino magazines from Holland or some such european location. This resulted in a constant battle chasing down each new issue that often went missing! Hard to build that complete set when those issues go missing. Some people did not bother chasing down each issue that failed to show up. That also in a way contributed to the difficulty in getting a complete set. I think it was only later that Cavallino began to handle back issues when there was an interest. Probably Alicia could comment on that point.

    Dear Rounder (?),

This is the first time we ever heard of this, and it is a complete fiction. All U.S. copies, and some foreign, were always sent from our office. Over the years, we began to pick up bulk distributors in Europe, Canada, Japan, etc., who distributed for us in their own markets.

Many of the early issues are rare because we only printed what we needed to fill subscriptions and bulk sales. As a result, many are out of print. However, we have always been willing to sell back issues that we do have, at prevailing market rates.

If we could be of any other help, let us know.

Thank you, Alicia for your comments. I am sure your memory of events is better than mine -old age and all that! Still, I will see if there are any old envelopes left on the shelf. It will be a rather daunting task as the stacks are more than 5 feet high now... Remember when the printer found that box of Cavlllino #2's that had been misplaced?

Alicia.......The Surfer's Journal just went into second printings on their Vol. 1 and Vol. 2..........."there's gold, in them there hills.....".......LOL!
$69.95 USD to be exact, each.

They are a little larger so they print four or five issues into one Volume, by year.....

Cavllino could easily feature 10 issues per volume......1 -10, 11- 20, etc., just think, you'd have that many volumes.

They make a point to reprint the reissue Volumes from original film. Much like your publication, the photography is breathtaking and deserves as wide a distribution as possible.

Don't let this marvelous work be lost to antiquity!

What did the Board of Directors at Cavallino think of this?
Do you still retain the original films all the way back to issue #1?

Collectors could still collect, but interested new Ferraristi could benefit from the easier access........
