I am researching a Diablo that I am going to be selling, and what I am trying to determine is if the car is actually the first US spec car produced. It is SN 12047 and has a production date of 12/90. I know Diablo's were first produced for the European market, where delivers supposedly started as early as July of 1990. I have yet to come across a US spec car with a VIN lower than 12047 while searching VINWIKI and other online sources.
According to Al Imber, Lamborghini USA president back at time of Diablo introduction, he was quoted as saying "The first shipments of USA cars will leave Italy this first week of February (1991)". He goes on to also say Lamborghini USA expects to receive 8 to 12 cars per month for the entire country. With a December 1990 production date for 12047 and first US delivery cars leaving Italy the first week of February 1991, it seems a safe assumption to believe 12047 was at a minimum in this first batch of 8 to 12 cafes being shipped ---- but was it the earliest VIN? The car in question was delivered to F.C. Kerbek and the owner agreed to not take delivery until July of 1991 so it could remain on display at the dealership. While I can certainly understand many of you may say "who cares?"--- given the condition, mileage, and history of this car, I believe it will serve as a benchmark for future preservation of early Diablo's, thus my interest in the question of whether 12047 is the "first" US car

I am aware that 12008 is the USA prototype - so just wondering if an earlier VIN than 12047 exists for a USA production car?

I can confirm from the data in ILR, that MLA12047 is indeed the first US delivered Diablo.
MLA12008 was the Prototype shown in Monaco but never went to US as a clients car, its in Tonino's Ferrucio Museum in Funo di Argelato in Italy repainted yellow.

The next US Diablo were these:
MLA12102 Giallo Fly Nero Prod. #102. Originally to Lamborghini USA on 11 Apr 91. Last in FL, USA
MLA12108 Nero Champagne Prod. #108. Originally to Lamborghini USA. on 8 Feb 91.
MLA12109 Nero Champagne Prod. #109. Originally to Lamborghini USA. on 28 Feb 91
MLA12113 Giallo Fly Nero Prod. #113. Originally to Lamborghini USA. on 14 Jan 91.
MLA12114 Nero Champagne Prod. #114. Originally to Lamborghini USA. on 8 Feb 91

Thanks for confirming my suspicions! The car is truly remarkable and I can't wait to share it with the community once we are done prepping it for sale.

As a high-level overview, the car has 761 kilometers, having been stored from new under a car cover in an air-conditioned building along with 75 other cars. It still has the original temporary tag in the rear window, the US mpg sticker in the passenger rear window, its original tires, and the rectangular sticker covering the cigarette lighter. Of course it comes with its original, complete set of books, tools, tire inflator, gloves, tow hook, emergency light and a car cover. And as an added bonus, it has the four piece luggage set - which remains unwrapped in its original plastic bags with Lamborghini tape! The original owner passed away last year and we will be offering the car on behalf of his estate.
